Wu Minshu (1805-1873), a famous writer and historian of the Qing Dynasty, a native of Baling (Yueyang) County, was familiar with reading the collection of scriptures and history since childhood, immersed himself in research and learning, and became a well-known ancient scholar at home and abroad, writing millions of words. Wu Minshu and Zuo Zongtang are the same people, and they sing with Zeng Guofan. Zeng Guofan urged Wu Minshu to serve as the governor of Liangjiang, but Wu Wan refused. In 1873, Wu Minshu went to Changsha to revise the "Hunan Tongzhi", died of illness in his apartment, and was buried in the Yueyang family cemetery. Guo Songtao, a famous diplomat in the late Qing Dynasty and a Xiangyin man, commented: "The grandeur of articles in Hunan in the past two hundred years was first recommended by Zeng Wu. "Zeng" refers to Zeng Guofan, and "Wu" means Wu Minshu.
It is reported that the Yueyang County Wu Minshu Literary Research Association is a civil society group established with the consent of the Propaganda Department of the county party committee and the approval of the county civil affairs bureau, with the president being Li Qingxin, the executive chairman He Xiongying, and the secretary general being Wu Daping. Its purpose and mission and the business carried out are mainly to study Wu Minshu's literature, protect the remaining relics, restore Wu Minshu's former residence, TingyuLou, Nanping Zen Temple, and Literature Hall, promote the construction of Wu Minshu Cultural Town, and create a new business card for Yueyang tourism.
