Through the infrared camera lens, get to know the genie of Che Ba Ling

Guard the green water and green mountains, and carry forward the ecological civilization. In order to display the achievements of resource protection and ecological civilization construction in Chebaling Nature Reserve and let the public have a more intuitive and in-depth understanding of the rich wildlife resources of Chebaling, the Reserve Management Bureau launched a series of publicity activities of "Wild Fun Chebaling" by integrating photos and videos of wild animals taken in the wild by using infrared cameras.

In this issue, we will take you to know the ring-necked pheasant known as the colorful pheasant.

Ring-necked pheasant generally refers to pheasant, also called pheasant. It is said that the name of Empress Lü of the Han Dynasty was pheasant, and in order to avoid secrecy, Han Gaozu ordered that the pheasant be changed to the title of pheasant. Because the male pheasant has a wide white feather around its neck, it is scientifically known as the "ring-necked pheasant", also known as pheasant and pheasant, which is the most widely distributed and numerous chicken-shaped bird in nature. CheBa Ling is more common.

1. Characteristics of the ring-necked pheasant

Ring-necked pheasants belong to the large pheasant family, with a body length of 58-90 cm. The male has gorgeous plumage, a head with a black luster, conspicuous ear feather clusters, bright red naked skin around the eyes, a body covered with gold, full of glowing feathers, from dark green, copper to gold, two wings gray, tail long and pointed, brown with black stripes. In contrast, female ring-necked pheasants have much less colored feathers than males, and females are smaller, duller, and densely covered in light brown markings. Timid by nature, highly vigilant, it is fully responsible for the work of incubating eggs with children, and the gray plumage provides it with better concealment.

2. The habitat of the ring-necked pheasant

Ring-necked pheasants can adapt to a variety of environments, and they are found in open woodlands, shrublands, semi-deserts and agricultural lands of different heights, but for them, mountain shrublands or hilly areas are the most ideal environment, because these areas are more conducive to their hiding. Ring-necked pheasants are not very picky eaters and are omnivorous birds, feeding on the young leaves, shoots, young stems, fruits and seeds of plants, as well as small invertebrates such as insects.

Ring-necked pheasants cannot fly for long, are typical birds of ground life, and usually rest in trees at night. However, when frightened, it flies faster and more powerfully, and glides before landing. After landing on the ground, it quickly runs and hides in the bushes and grasses, and easily does not take off.

3. Growth and reproduction of ring-necked pheasants

From March to July of each year, it is the breeding season of ring-necked pheasants, although male ring-necked pheasants in some areas will have multiple mates, but what is currently observed here in Chebaling is basically monogamous. During breeding, male birds often make "cluck-cluck" chirps, especially in the early morning, and after each chirp, they must flap their wings a few times.

In colder regions or areas with distinct seasons, ring-necked pheasants can breed once a year, while in warmer regions, ring-necked pheasants can breed twice a year. Some of the subspecies of ring-necked pheasants, which are particularly reproductive, can lay about twenty eggs in a single nest, so this bird has the capital to gain a foothold in most areas when humans do not shoot them.

4. Protective measures

In recent years, due to the improvement of environmental protection, the living state of the ring-necked pheasant is getting better and better, from the population point of view, the ring-necked pheasant belongs to the typical non-endangered species, but because of their beautiful image, with great ecological value, so in China belongs to the ranks of the national three protected animals. For the "three animals", China's criminal law and relevant laws stipulate that catching 1 (article) without permission is illegal, catching more than 20 (article) constitutes a crime, and catching more than 50 (article) is a major criminal case.

Protecting ecological resources is to protect people's livelihood, although the ring-necked pheasant is small, it is an integral part of ecological resources, and protecting ecological resources is the responsibility of every citizen.
