Karim Benzema hit the ball twice in a Real Madrid victory

Benzema scored twice to lead Real Madrid to a convincing victory in Wednesday's 2-1 home defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk and gave the Spanish side a temporary three-point lead over the Group D champions.

In the 15th minute, Vinicius Jr. steals the ball from a miner's defender and Benzema shoots hard inside the box to give Real Madrid the lead.

The Ukrainian miners equalised five minutes before halftime and Fernando completed a stunning counter-attack.

Benzema and Vinicius Jr. combined again to become true champions after hour markers, who found the net again with a good connection with Casemiro before kicking off with the French striker.

A ruthless performance in the second half allowed Inter to easily beat Sheriff Tiraspol 3-1 away from home, allowing them to overtake Moldova's rookies to second place in Group D.

Inter's 14 attempts before half-time didn't help, leaving them frustrated, but when Marcelo Brozovic opened fire home earlier in the second half, the hosts' resistance was eventually broken.

Milan Scrinhniar doubled the Nerazzurri lead, while substitute Alexis Sanchez scored three points into home in the minute after playing, while Adama Terraore made stoppage time for the sheriff in stoppage time.

Inter climbed to second place with seven points, with one point ahead of third-placed Sharif and six points ahead of The Donetsk Miners at the bottom, but two points behind group leader Real Madrid.

Dominique Sobosley's late penalty saved Leipzig (RB Leipzig)

Georgio Wijnaldum scored his first two goals for his new club Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, but a penalty against RB Leipzig in stoppage time saved them from a 2-2 draw in Group A of the Champions League.

The Dutchman has struggled since joining Liverpool this season, scoring a goal in the 21st minute and scoring another header six minutes before half-time.

Leipzig were eliminated by just one point in four games, taking the lead in the 8th minute with Christopher Nkunku and missing a chance to double when Andrei Silva's penalty in the 12th minute was saved.

However, substitute Dominique Sobosley performed better from the field in second-half stoppage time, saving a point for the German.

Gabriel Jesus celebrated after scoring City's fourth goal

City beat Club Bruges 4-1 and were back on the road to victory and into sight of the Champions League knockout stages, although it wasn't a trouble-free night for Guardiola's side.

In the end, goals from Phil Foden, Riyadh Mahrez, Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus won comfortably enough that City left the top of Group A with nine points after Paris Saint-Germain drew with Leipzig.

But after John Stones' oolong ball allowed Brugge to equalise early, City looked uncomfortable.

Group b: Porto are targeted by Milan

Luis Diaz celebrates his early opener in Milan

Ac Milan won their first Champions League point of the season in a 1-1 draw with Porto in San Siro, but the result brought the seven-time European champions to the brink of elimination.

Luis Diaz batted the ball six minutes later to give Portugal the lead, who had the upper hand against the under-par Rossoneri in the first half.

Prime Minister Mbamba's oolong ball equalised Milan after half-time, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic's goal was ruled offside as the Italians waited for victory. Porto moved up to second place with five points, four points ahead of Milan.

Diogo Jota celebrates after Liverpool's 1-0 lead

Liverpool reached the knockout stage of the Champions League with two games after a convincing 2-0 win over 10-man Atletico Madrid at Anfield to ensure they were at the top of Group B.

Diogo Jota gave Jürgen Klopp a lead in the 13th minute, nodding home at the back after Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross from the right.

Eight minutes later, Alexander-Arnold was again the provider of the second game when his low ball went into the box and Sadio Mane brilliantly met Jan Oblak.

After Felipe was sent off for a red card for deliberately bumping into Mane in the 36th minute, trouble intensified on the Spanish side.

Sebastian Haller is once again on the scoring list

Ajax beat 10-man Borussia Dortmund 3-1 in Group C of the Champions League to advance to the knockout stages.

Goals from Toussan Tadic, Sebastian Haller and David Klassen held the Dutch club's 100 per cent goal record in the final 19 minutes after Marco Reus converted the penalty of the first half into the home team, who had to play with the 10ers for an hour after Mats Hummels.

Ajax rose to 12 points in the table and secured a spot in the round of 16 with two games. Dortmund tied for second with Sporting Lisbon with 6 points.

Pedro Gonçalves' double helped Portugal Sport in a 4-0 home win over Besiktas.

The injured Besiktas scored their first three goals in 10 minutes later in the first half.

Former Wolves youngster Gonçalves staged a full-game game with home taking a 2-0 lead, while Paulinho scored their third goal on a counter-attack just before half-time.

Pablo Sarabia finished scoring earlier in the second half. Besiktas is at the bottom, meaningless.
