By the end of the 21st century, about 90% of China will be hit by continuous floods and extreme heat

On September 8, 2021, an article titled "Growing threats from unprecedented sequential flood-hot extremes across China" published in geophysical research letters showed that by the end of the 21st century, About 90 percent of China will be hit by continuous flooding and extreme heat.

When multiple extreme events occur in succession, cascading effects tend to cause more serious losses. From the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, nanjing university of information science and technology, université paris in Paris, France Using two initial-condition large ensembles, the saclay researchers predicted a continuous trend of floods and extreme heat in China that occurred once in 50 years.

The results of the study show that: (1) in the past 2000, China has experienced 50-year floods and 50-year extreme heat, but there is no historical precedent for 50-year floods and extreme heat events in a week; (2) the risk of 50-year floods and extreme heat events in a week will rise rapidly in the 2030s; (3) by the end of the 21st century, about 90% of China will be hit by 50-year floods and extreme heat in a week ;(4) By the end of the 21st century, faster and more severe flooding and high temperature contiguous extreme events are expected to occur earlier in southwest and southeast China.
