Not only that, after the grenade explodes, it can only explode into two pieces, forming a dense shrapnel, and it cannot be said to have much lethality. What's even more frustrating is that with just these bad grenades, throw three to sound one.

Once, his men found two old cannons from the late Qing Dynasty and dozens of shells, and Liao Zhengguo and a college student fiddled with them for three days and two nights, and they were transformed into two flat-firing cannons. Another time, he heard that the Plane of Chiang Kai-shek's Army shot down by the troops had electric shock machine guns on it, so he immediately sent someone to dismantle it and convert it into a manually operated anti-aircraft machine gun by himself, specializing in fighting tanks, which was extremely sharp.
Liao Zhengguo, who was both bold and intelligent, was soon transferred to the 1st Regiment of the 1st Brigade of the 1st Division of the New Fourth Army. The 1st Regiment is one of the ten main regiments of the New Fourth Army, and the local people call it the old regiment, and the reputation of the old regiment is associated with the reputation of "Liao Duzi". Fellow villagers said that "Liao Duzi" combined Zhang Fei's bravery, Guan Gong's loyalty, and Kong Ming's wisdom, and was a hero in the New Fourth Army. Among young people, there are even more popular sayings: "To eat vegetables, you must eat cabbage hearts, and when you are a soldier, you must be a new fourth army; to practice martial arts, you must practice Shaolin boxing, and when you are a soldier, you must be an old regiment." ”
Liao Zhengguo's reputation was not blown out, but played out. At the beginning, he led two hundred men and horses, crossed nine roads, flew across eighteen rivers, attacked Shanghai Hongqiao Airport at night, burned Japanese planes, and became famous in one fell swoop; in the decisive battle of Huangqiao, he commanded his troops to rush the enemy's 89th Army headquarters to the ground, forcing the commander Li Shouwei to jump into the river; in the Battle of Lujiatan, he fought with the Japanese army, tricked more than 400 Japanese troops into the pockets of the old regiment and beat them bitterly, first told the Japanese army to eat mines, then told the Japanese army to eat bayonets, and finally used fire to attack, and after an earth-shaking hand-to-hand combat, he completely annihilated this enemy. Captured 24 Japanese troops alive.

The prestige of a commander comes from his character and seniority, and even more from his own ability level. Commanders who can make subordinates sincerely feel that "the level of the chief is higher than ours" are truly prestigious. Liao Zhengguo is such a person.
In the Fifth Campaign to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, Zhang Yixiang, commander of the 20th Army of the Volunteer Army, returned to China for treatment due to illness, and Deputy Commander Liao Zhengguo commanded the whole army to fight. After completing the first two phases of combat missions, the 20th Army was ordered to retreat.

Liao Zhengguo heard the dull sound of howitzers not far away on the march, and judged by experience that the US army was counterattacking, and it was not far from here. Not far from the Huachuan Bridge, he suddenly asked the staff officer next to him how many shells exploded in a minute, and the staff officer replied that there were about 20 rounds. Based on this, he judged that the American artillery should be a battalion.
He then asked, "Can you tell where the American artillery positions are?" How far is Huachuan? The staff officer was immediately asked. Liao Zhengguo told the staff officer: "The initial speed of the American howitzer is 650 meters per second, and the time to fly in the air after the shell is fired is seven or eight seconds." Judging from this, the artillery positions of the US army are about 6 kilometers away from Huachuan. ”

Until a few years later, when the founding major general Liao Zhengguo left the 20th Army to become the commander of the Shanghai Garrison District, the officers and men of the 20th Army still admired this old commander who had both wisdom and courage.
In 1980, when Wu Qiang, the author of the novel "Red Sun", came to Beijing for a meeting, he went to visit the old chief Su Yu. Wu Qiang said that he planned to write another novel about Huaye's troops, and he needed to create an image of a division-level cadre, and he asked Commander Su who to use as the prototype to write the best. Su Yu thought for a moment and said, "Comrade Liao Zhengguo is very distinctive, he can lead the troops to fight, you can take him as a model." ”
Unfortunately, Wu Qiang did not write this book for various reasons, and readers will not see the literary image based on Liao Zhengguo, which is a great pity.
