Plant morphology
It is an annual herb that is about 1 meter tall. The stalks are erect and cylindrical. The leaf sheath is equal in length with the nodal question, the lower part is longer than the internodes, the leaf tongue is membranous and stiff, narrow and lanceolate, the lower extension of the base sides is combined with the edge of the leaf sheath, and the leaves are flat lanceolate, 25 to 60 cm long and 5 to 15 mm wide, with obvious leaf lugs when young. The conical inflorescence is loose, the flakes are often rough, the spikelets are oblong, usually brownish purple, the degenerate outer cone is spine-like, can breed the outer inflorescence with 5 veins, covered with fine hairs, with or without mango, the inner barnyard 3 veins, covered with fine hairs; the scales are 2, oval, stamens 6, the peduncle 2, the stigma broom brush, protruding from both sides of the small flowers. The fruit is smooth. The grains are full, slightly rounded, and the color is whiter. The flowering and fruiting period is from July to August.

Harvesting and processing
In summer and autumn, after the glutinous rice is harvested, the rhizomes and whisker roots are dug up, the residual stems are removed, washed and dried.

Medicinal properties
This product is all assembled into a loose mass, with a separated stump at the upper end, cylindrical, hollow, 2.5 to 6.5 cm long, surrounded by several layers of gray-white or yellow-white leaf sheaths, and the lower end is clustered with most of the whiskers. The whiskers are slender and curved, 1 mm in diameter. The surface is yellowish white to yellowish brown, and the epidermis appears white after shedding, with slight longitudinal wrinkles. Light, soft, slightly airy and light in taste.
