The breeding season is from December to April. Breeding behavior is very similar to that of grass finches. Males build nests during estrus, have the ability to drive females, and have a high frequency of jumping and grabbing before mating. The female can lay eggs after pairing, laying 4-6 eggs per clutch. The color of young birds varies greatly from that of adult birds. The head, neck and sides of the body are grey, the wings and tail are olive green in color, the abdomen is light brown, the beak is black brown, and the legs and feet are brown. The chicks, which have just come out of the shell, are hairless all over the body and have pink skin.
