Seven consecutive days of single-day box office increases! "Chosin Lake" recorded 3.2 billion, theater manager: after the National Day and hungry for three months

During the National Day, the movie "Chosin Lake" achieved a great harvest in the box office market. According to Maoyan Professional Edition data, as of 19:00 on October 7, the film had a box office of about 3.2 billion yuan, accounting for 73% of the box office during the National Day. In addition, the total box office of this year's National Day file is 4.3 billion yuan, of which the box office of "My Father and Me" is about 1 billion yuan.

Many cities across the country perform well. Shanghai ranked first with a box office of 220 million yuan (as of 19:00 on the 7th), Beijing ranked second with 180 million yuan, and Shenzhen ranked third with 150 million yuan. However, the first-tier city of Guangzhou fell behind, ranking fifth, not only opening up the gap with Shenzhen in the same province, but also losing to Chengdu, which has sprung up in the western city.

Liao Zhangkai, manager of Shenzhen China Film Southern Cinema, said that Cantonese films may be more in line with the tastes of Guangzhou people, so "Changjin Lake" is not as good as Shenzhen, which has more foreigners, and Chengdu, where life rhythms are more casual.

Since the beginning of this year, guangzhou's box office market has been weaker than Chengdu's. According to Maoyan Professional Edition data, Guangzhou's total box office this year is about 1.2 billion yuan, lower than Shenzhen's 1.3 billion yuan, similar to Chengdu. However, Guangzhou's total ticket sales are nearly 2.5 million fewer than Chengdu's, and because the average ticket price in Guangzhou is 3 yuan higher than Chengdu, the two are barely equal in total box office.

<h5>"Chosin Lake" was "praised" by the elderly</h5>

From the first day of the release of "Chosin Lake" (September 30), the single-day box office increased for seven consecutive days, from 200 million yuan per day to 500 million yuan. As of 19:00 on October 7, the total box office of "Chosin Lake" has surpassed the same type of film "Eight Hundred", becoming a new box office ceiling for domestic war films.

Thanks to the box office performance of "Chosin Lake", the single-day box office in the first four days of this year's National Day file (September 30 to October 3) also showed an increasing trend every day, from 280 million yuan per day to 660 million yuan. As of 19:00 on October 7, the total box office of the National Day file was second only to the level of 4.4 billion yuan in the same period of 2019, the second highest in history.

Films like "Chosin Lake" that have increased their box office for seven consecutive days in a single day have not been common before. The most recent two films are "The Wandering Earth" (the single-day box office increased for six consecutive days, and the final box office increased by 4.6 billion yuan) and "Hello, Li Huanying" (the single-day box office increased for five consecutive days, and the final box office was 5.4 billion).

The single-day box office increase reflects the heating up of the film and its box office potential. This year's Spring Festival file, "Hello, Li Huanying" single-day box office increase, so that it can gradually occupy an advantage in the competition with "Detective Chinatown 3". "Detective Chinatown 3" grossed as much as 1 billion yuan on the first day (the highest single-day box office in the single market of global film history), and "Hello, Li Huanying" was only 300 million yuan; but in the end, "Hello, Li Huanying" counterattacked "Detective Chinatown 3" with word of mouth, and the total box office was 900 million yuan higher than the latter.

"The box office of "Chosin Lake" has been released since the first day of release, indicating that word of mouth is improving; the blessing of the National Day slot is the icing on the cake for the box office." Liao Zhangkai, manager of Shenzhen China Film Southern Cinema, told Times Finance on October 7 that "Changjin Lake" has brought a movie boom to the National Day file by relying on brilliant war dramas and the appeal of actors.

At present, "Chosin Lake" has created a number of histories, including the box office champion in the history of the National Day film, the single-day box office champion in the history of the National Day film, and the box office champion in the history of the domestic war film. Market analysis believes that the next milestone of "Changjin Lake" is to break the box office record of 5.7 billion yuan in the Chinese film market created by "Wolf Warrior 2" in 2017.

"If 'Chosin Lake' wants to surpass 'Wolf Warrior 2' at the box office, the key is to look at the box office results of the first working week (October 8 to October 17) after the End of the National Day holiday, and if "Chosin Lake" can still maintain a single-day box office performance of 200 million yuan, there is hope." Liao Zhangkai said.

"Wolf Warrior 2" has a cumulative number of moviegoers of up to 160 million, compared with the current scale of "Chosin Lake" of 70 million, the advantage is still obvious, but because the average ticket price of "Chosin Lake" is about 10 yuan higher than that of "Wolf Warrior 2", the possibility of creating a higher box office with fewer viewers still exists.

It is worth mentioning that the box office hit "Wolf Warrior 2" and "Chosin Lake" attracted the same group of moviegoers: the elderly. A theater manager in North China told Times Finance that the reason for the continued popularity of "Changjin Lake" in the National Day file is not the fan economy driven by well-known directors such as Chen Kaige and Xu Ke, or well-known actors such as Wu Jing and Yi Qianxi, but from a large number of ordinary audiences, especially the elderly who rarely come to the theater to watch movies.

Liao Zhangkai also believes that the audience of "Chosin Lake" is sinking, and he is older. "I do observe that a lot of older people go to the theater to watch movies, they are about 60 to 70 years old, accounting for about 5% of the total moviegoers." Liao Zhangkai said that these elderly audiences usually only appear in the cinema during the Spring Festival, and the last time they saw such a large number of elderly audiences was when "Wolf Warrior 2" was released.

<h5>The Spring Festival stalls may be "immortal fights"</h5>

Judging from the post-holiday period, the two imported films with high attention, "Dune" and "007 No Time to Die", have a small probability of becoming blockbusters, and the market estimates that the box office volume of the two imported films in the country is between 500 million and 700 million yuan.

The only film that may compete with "Chosin Lake" at the single-day box office is Marvel's new "Venom 2", which is not currently finalized. This also means that the single-day box office champion of "Chosin Lake" is likely to remain until the end of October. This also creates a large space for "Chosin Lake" to surpass "Wolf Warrior 2" at the box office.

Liao Zhangkai said that many theaters rely on blockbuster movies such as "Chosin Lake" to get out of the business predicament under the epidemic; as long as the main theme film is filmed well and can impress the audience, it will meet the current needs and will also drive the better development of the entire industry.

Theater managers across the country have successively turned their attention to next year's Spring Festival stalls.

At present, there are as many as 10 films scheduled to be released in the Spring Festival file (starting on February 1), including the next part of "Chosin Lake" "Watergate Bridge", the mythological film "Fengshen" directed by Urshan, the movie "Miracle" starring Yi Qianxi, the movie "Super Family" starring Shen Teng, the film "Four Seas" directed by Han Han, the film "This Killer Is Not Calm", the film starring Meng Meiqi starring in "My Heart Is Flying", and a number of well-known IP animation films "Cherry Pills", "Pleasant Sheep Gray Wolf New Movie", "Bear Haunting Returns to Earth" wait.

Some theater managers joked in the circle of friends: "The Spring Festival stalls may fight with the gods and immortals, and we will die, after all, after the National Day, we will be hungry for three months." However, Times Finance learned from industry insiders that until the last moment, the producer will not take the initiative to fix the file.
