Chen Changfeng: Data is the basic literacy of this era

On June 6th, the 2021 Global Artificial Intelligence Technology Conference (GAITC 2021) "Development and Challenges" Intellectual Media Symposium hosted by the Chinese Engineering Intelligence Society (hereinafter referred to as CAAI) and co-hosted by Sina News and communication university of China was successfully concluded in Hangzhou. At the meeting, Chen Changfeng, executive vice dean and professor of the School of Journalism and Communication of Tsinghua University, delivered a keynote speech on "Data, Dataism and Communication Change".

Chen Changfeng: Data is the basic literacy of this era

Chen Changfeng delivered a keynote speech.

"The new God of mankind is not God, but data." Chen Changfeng introduced that big data, artificial intelligence, and mobile Internet are the three technologies that most profoundly affect news dissemination, also known as technologies that will affect the world in the future for 100 years. These three technologies have brought earth-shaking changes to the field of communication, driving the transformation of the digital news communication industry, from the initial connection of information and information, and gradually upgraded to the connection of virtual space and physical space, and the connection of biological information and computational information at this stage.

At present, the application of data and intelligent technology in the field of communication is mainly reflected in the following aspects: data mining and analysis, automated content production, algorithm distribution of news/information, user mutual assistance/social robots, intelligent fact-checking. "Data has become a fundamental literacy of our time," she said. ”

Data has a big impact not only on the field of news dissemination, but also on other fields. In 2013, the new York Times commentary board first proposed the "dataism" trend, which attracted widespread attention. Chen Changfeng believes that in the era of information economy, data has replaced coal, iron ore and oil in the industrial age and become a new resource and core competitiveness.

"If dataism succeeds in conquering the world, what will happen to humanity when everything is digitized?" She argues that once authority shifts from human to algorithmic, humanism may become irrelevant. "We have to prove to the system that we still have value. The value is not in having experience, but in transforming it into a free stream of data. ”

"When we continue to develop artificial intelligence, it is usually the interests that are first, and we must be vigilant against the chaotic development of lack of ethics and values, which is the problem we are currently facing." We develop intelligence, develop data science, and adhere to the correct value orientation. Chen Changfeng concluded. (Zhang Mingyang)
