CCTV News: A few days ago, the Organizing Committee of the Eighth National Moral Model Selection and Commendation Activity reviewed and identified 322 national moral model candidates recommended by various localities and the military system, including helping others for fun, seeing righteousness and courage, honesty and trustworthiness, dedication to work, filial piety and love for the elderly, and so on. Let's take a look at today's (July 20) national exhibition of exemplary candidates for ethics.

Duguima: 28 orphans of the steppe Egil

In the early 1960s, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and other places suffered natural disasters, and under the arrangement of the relevant state departments, more than 3,000 orphans in these places who lost their families due to the disaster came from the distant Jiangnan to the grasslands of Inner Mongolia.

The youngest of these children is less than one year old, and the oldest is only 5 years old. In 1961, the 19-year-old Duguma underwent simple training and with the help of an assistant, began caring for these frail infants and young children. Under the careful care of Duguima, the children slowly adapted to the northern climate and the diet of the herders and thrived.

From that day on, Duguima, the prairie mother, circled the 28 children 24 hours a day, changing diapers, feeding milk powder, and coaxing them to sleep. Once a child fell ill, she braved the cold wind to ride a horse for dozens of miles to send the child to the doctor. In that era of lack of medical treatment and hardship, none of the 28 children cared for by Duguima were disabled by illness, let alone died prematurely.

In Inner Mongolia in the 1970s, the land was sparsely populated, the transportation was inconvenient, and the medical and health conditions were very backward, and childbirth was undoubtedly a "ghost gate" for women in pastoral areas. In 1974, Du Guima, who had just become a member of the Communist Party, participated in the obstetrics training organized by the Flag Hospital, and gradually mastered a unique set of methods for delivering babies under the simple conditions of the pastoral area, saving the lives of more than 40 young mothers and welcoming one small life after another in more than 10 years.
