The reporter noted that according to the "Regulations of Shanghai Municipality on Conferring the Title of Honorary Citizen" adopted in January 1997 and amended in August 1998, foreigners, overseas Chinese, and other persons outside the city who meet the requirements of promoting the city's foreign exchanges, establishing sister city relations, and carrying out exchanges and cooperation, and who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the city's science, education, culture, health, and sports undertakings; foreigners, overseas Chinese, and other persons outside the city who have made outstanding contributions to the development of social welfare undertakings and charitable undertakings in the city may be awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of Shanghai Municipality." DuGuima was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of Shanghai" as "other people outside the city".

DuGuima, 79, is a herdsman of siziwangqi in Wulanchabu City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and is of Mongolian ethnicity.

From 1959 to 1961, China suffered serious three years of natural disasters, economic difficulties, serious food shortages, and the phenomenon of abandoned infants and young children increased. Inner Mongolia has adopted more than 3,000 infants and young children from all over the country, including about 1,800 infants and young children from Shanghai. The first children sent to Inner Mongolia were quickly taken away, and the children who were not in good health went to the grassland to recuperate in the nursery, when du Guima, who was only 19 years old at the time, was recruited into a temporary nursery and became a nursery for 28 children, and before she was married, she became a mother and raised 28 Shanghai orphans alone. The youngest of these children has just reached the full moon, and the oldest is only 6 years old, one by one, like little lambs waiting to be fed, Guima gave the orphans their first home with gentle love and a broad heart.

From feeding, feeding to nursing and peeing, she stayed up all night, cleaning up the children from head to toe, as soon as a child was sick, no matter how bad the weather outside, Du Guima would jump on the horse and go to the hospital, people often saw that the young Du Guima rode his horse in the middle of the night to brave the cold wind and the danger of being surrounded by hungry wolves on the steppe, running for dozens of miles to find a doctor.

In this way, the grassland Erji used his great love to practice the promise of "one after the other, strong one", and the children from the south survived the wind and frost on the grassland and resisted the cold winter in the north, and all of them grew strong and healthy. None of the 28 Shanghai orphans were disabled by illness, let alone died prematurely, which can be said to have created a miracle in that year when there was a lack of medical treatment and often starvation.

Every time Duguima raises or raises a child, others take one, she has experienced 28 painful partings, she raised 28 children, but she is still alone, but she said that maternal love makes her life full and happy.

The children of Duguima, who are now engaged in different jobs in various places, are also difficult to give up on this old aunt, and the 28 children have already established a family, and they want to take her to live in the city, but she refuses.

Shepherding sheep, collecting dung, milking cows, although Du Guima is faltering, she does not want to leave the grassland, she wants to continue to guard this green world, and live with the villagers. Du Guima always said that there are thousands of mothers like her on the grassland, and the people of the grassland have not failed to live up to the instructions of the motherland.

Large-scale dramas based on Duguima, such as "Children of the Nation", TV series "Children of the Nation", and movies "Hailindu", have won many awards at home and abroad, and her deeds have aroused strong social repercussions.

Du Guima is an outstanding representative of the 1,800 abandoned babies and abandoned children carefully raised by the people of Inner Mongolia from Shanghai, and her love fully demonstrates the deep affection and kindness of the compatriots of all ethnic groups in the big family of the Chinese nation, and the lofty spirit of sharing worries for the country and loving boundlessly, and has achieved a good story of national unity between the Mongolian and Han families. She has made outstanding contributions to Shanghai's social welfare undertakings and foreign cooperation and exchanges.

In 1979 and 1983, Du Guima was twice named the national "March 8 Red Banner Bearer", attended the Fifth National Women's Congress, and was cordially received by the leaders of the Party Central Committee and the State Council; in 2005, he was awarded the honorary title of National Model of National Unity and Progress; in 2007, he was awarded the National Moral Model Nomination Award; in 2008, he was awarded the title of "Loving Mother" by the China Children's Fund; in September 2019, President Xi Jinping signed a presidential decree awarding Du Guima the title of "People's Model" National honorary title.

This morning, seeing his relatives in Shanghai come to his home, the old man Du Guima could not hide his joy in his heart. She said that she was very happy and encouraged to receive the title of "Honorary Citizen of Shanghai Municipality" today. I just did what I should have done, and did my part to promote national unity, but I received continuous care from all sides. Seeing the 28 orphans raised by themselves growing up healthily, starting a family and repaying the society is the greatest happiness, I wish the friendship between the people of Shanghai and Mongolia to last forever.
