"The spirit of 'Falling Peanuts' is not an aura to show off, it is more like a mirror. Let me always be alert to myself, down-to-earth, silent dedication. Facing the camera, Xu Pei, a Taiwanese NPC deputy, expressed his heart.
If it were not for the countless literature before the interview, the reporter would not have thought that she in front of her had such an inseparable love affair with the familiar "Falling Peanuts".
Xu Pei's great-grandfather Xu Nanying was a famous poet and patriotic general of the Qing Dynasty, and after the Sino-Japanese War in 1895, the Qing government signed the Treaty of Maguan, which humiliated the country and ceded Taiwan to Japan. At that time, Xu Nanying led an army to resist the Japanese invaders, and it was not until the last moment before the Japanese army occupied Tainan City that he was forced to leave Taiwan for the mainland with the help of local fishermen. Xu Pei's grandfather Xu Zanmu was xu Nanying's third son, and the fourth son, Xu Zankun, Xu Pei's uncle was the famous writer Xu Dishan.
"There are many advantages of the peanut, but one of the most precious is that its fruit is buried in the ground, unlike peaches, pomegranates, and apples, where the bright red and green fruits are hung high on the branches, so that people will have a heart of admiration at first sight. You see it growing low on the ground, and when it is ripe, you can't immediately tell if it has any fruit, and you have to dig it up to know. "When I was a child, Xu Pei grew up in the story of "Falling Peanuts"." Do not seek a false name, silent dedication, this is the insistence of the Xu family. ”
In 2008, the 46-year-old Xu Pei returned to Taiwan for the first time, stepping into the homeland where his ancestors lived, and Xu Pei's heart was mixed. "In 2007, my father left the world, and his greatest wish in this life was to return to the place where my great-grandfather lived in his lifetime, to walk around and take a look, and at that moment, I finally fulfilled my father's wish."
Looking at the grass and trees in his hometown, Xu Pei's eyes seemed to appear to be the scene of his fathers chanting, painting, living, and frolicking here at that time, and tears poured out in a flash. "The two sides of the strait have been separated for too long, and as a Compatriot of Taiwan nationality, I really hope that Taiwan can return to the embrace of the motherland at an early date, develop and grow together with the mainland of the motherland, and base itself on the forest of the world's nationalities."
As president of the Chongqing Municipal Federation of Taiwan Compatriots and concurrently vice president of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, Xu Pei often travels between the mainland and Taiwan to do things that are beneficial to promoting cross-strait exchanges. Just as General Secretary Xi Jinping mentioned in his speech at the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the publication of the "Message to Taiwan Compatriots," it is the duty of the Taiwan Federation to let the compatriots on both sides of the strait understand the greatest goodwill released by the mainland and to pass on the spirit of patriotism and love for the homeland of their ancestors from generation to generation."
In recent years, Xu Pei has actively promoted economic, trade, and cultural exchanges between Chongqing and Taiwan, enhanced mutual understanding among the people on both sides of the strait, and especially promoted exchanges and exchanges between grass-roots organizations in Chongqing and Taiwan. "Chongqing and Taiwan have very deep historical ties, so there is no obstacle to exchanges between the two places." From the Chongqing branch of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots Summer Camp, to the "Confucius Foot Activity", and then to the township and village friendship activities of the same name, the exchanges and cooperation between Chongqing and Taiwan are moving forward step by step.
"Do more work to promote cross-strait exchanges and promote the integration of the people's hearts and minds, so that more Taiwan compatriots can understand the mainland's political system, understand the great achievements made by the motherland's mainland since its reform and opening up, understand the various benefits brought to the broad masses of Taiwan compatriots by 'peaceful reunification and one country, two systems,' let the concept of good cross-strait relations, and only when cross-strait relations are good will Taiwan be good will be able to penetrate deeply into the hearts of the people of Taiwan, and let the people on the island wake up from the unrealistic propaganda of the DPP authorities and join the process of the motherland's reunification, this is also the best interpretation of the spirit of 'falling peanuts.'"
"My hometown is in Tainan, and my cousins still live there. Because of my work, I often travel between the two sides of the strait frequently, and in my conversations with my brothers and sisters, I found that many people in southern Taiwan, including them, still do not know enough about the mainland. In order to enhance the emotional connection between the grassroots people in central and southern Taiwan and the mainland, Xu Pei submitted a number of Taiwan-related proposals at this year's National Two Sessions to present two giant pandas to Kaohsiung City, Taiwan.
In the contacts and exchanges with Taiwan compatriots, I found that the two giant pandas "Tuantuan" and "Yuanyuan" donated by the mainland to Taiwan have attracted the attention and love of the Taiwanese people. Then I also believe that after the giant pandas have settled in Kaohsiung, they will also be able to close the distance between southern Taiwan and the mainland. Speaking of this, Xu Pei told reporters with a smile, "I have thought of a name, one is called 'Xiong Xiong', the other is called 'RongRong'..."
