Southern and Northern Dynasties: The emperor who sold himself but was an all-rounder in literature and martial arts

author:Historical artist

Monks used to eat meat. So when did you start being a vegetarian?

For their own Buddhist cause. Sold himself to the temple and sold it four times. Let your oranges cost the unexpected to redeem themselves.

He is also the most culturally and literaryly literate of the hundreds of emperors in Chinese history. He was also the only emperor who practiced Confucianism and Taoism. Of all the emperors of ancient China, he lived the second longest lifespan of 86 years. He reigned sixth, ruling for 48 years. He is also a cruel person, he can even put aside the succession to the throne as an emperor for the sake of carnal desires, or he can not be close to a woman for more than 40 years. Of course, he was also the only emperor to be starved to death!

He was Xiao Yan, the founding emperor of Southern Liang during the Southern and Northern Dynasties. It is the protagonist of the "Four Hundred and Eighty Temples of the Southern Dynasty, How Many Buildings in the Smoke and Rain" that we carry.

Emperor Xiao Yan of Liangwu (464-549), and Xiao Daocheng of Southern Qi, were both members of the family. They are all descendants of Xiao Zhen of Huaiyin. So its starting point is very high. First he served as the king of Baling and Nanzhonglang and joined the army of Fa Cao Xing of Xiao Zilun Province, and later changed it to the Dongge Sacrifice Under the Wei general Wang Jian. He was a man of great skill, and he also had the talent of literature and martial arts, and Xiao Ziliang, the king of Jinling, opened the West Residence and recruited scholars of literature, Xiao Yan and Fan Yun, Xiao Chen, Ren Fang, Wang Rong, Xie Yuan, Shen Yue, and Lu Qian traveled together under Xiao Ziliang's door, and were known as the "Eight Friends of Jingling".

After Xiao Luan ascended the throne, Xiao Yan was awarded the title of Jianyang County Man and 300 households for participating in the "decision-making". Since then, Xiao Yan's position has become increasingly prominent.

After Xiao Baojuan succeeded to the throne, he was tyrannical, killed heavy subjects, regained the power of the dynasty, and "appointed a small man", resulting in frequent internal turmoil, "Fang Zhen has different plans", and later killed Xiao Yan's brother Xiao Yi. In order to protect himself, Xiao Yan united with Xiao Ying, the clan of jingzhou prefecture, to raise an army and support Xiao Baorong, the king of Nankang.

After Xiao Baojuan's death, Xiao Yan had great power, so his friends Shen Yue and Fan Yun instigated him to do imperial deeds. He nodded and asked the two of them to prepare for the Zen concession. Everything was ready, but Xiao Yan hid in the harem and heard nothing, and he couldn't see it, and everyone thought he was sick, so Fan Yun tried his best to finally find out. But I was almost half killed by gas.

It turned out that Xiao Yan was also a rake ear, and he had only married one wife and one concubine for so many years. And because the wife is strong, she doesn't even touch the side of the concubine. Later, Xi Shi died of illness and could finally kiss Fangze. Then there was the war again. However, you can't take women with you when you fight. So it was also a hard time to hold back for a year or two. Now that I have entered the harem, I have seen the six palace powder daisy, and I have long drought and Ganlin, and I can't love it once! In particular, the famous Concubine She, who often served the pillow seat, made this bodhisattva emperor seem drunk, Shen Xiang was not in rule, what jiangshan, what emperor, it was better than this gentle township!

Fan Yun took a look. How can this be done, the throne is not wanted, want a woman? You are not the emperor, how can my glory and wealth be guaranteed? So he found Xiao Yan's confidant Wang Mao and went together to persuade him to quickly ascend the throne. A word awakens the dreamer. Xiao Yan also felt that something had gone wrong, so he promised to succeed to the throne immediately. However, Fan Yun wanted to get rid of the troubles so that the emperor would not indulge in female sex again. He forced Xiao Yan to give Concubine She to Wang Mao. (Off-topic: It is possible that this time the injury is too serious, so there is no near female color for more than 40 years.) )

After becoming emperor, he exerted great efforts to govern, but the Northern Wei Dynasty protected the border and the people; learned the lessons of the previous dynasty, reused the clan family, advocated frugality, and selected good officials; set up slanderous wooden letters and lung stone letters. If meritorious and talented people are not rewarded and promoted for meritorious service, or if good talents are not used, they can submit letters to the lung stone letter. If you are an ordinary person who wants to give any criticism or suggestions to the state, you can submit a letter to the slander letter. The country is in a big way!

The country prospered. It was time to engage in his own hobbies, Xiao Yan was not only a military general, but also a literati. An all-rounder of both culture and martial arts.

So poetry and song flourished. The book is published and said, and it is not time to go. He personally visited Guozi to learn the scriptures, and presided over the examination, and personally worshiped the Ming Hall. The five rites (Ji, Qi, Jun, Bin, and Jia) were re-enacted, and the poetry collection "Selected Writings of Zhaoming" was published, and the "General History" was compiled. Since then, the government and the public have been "Mu Mu Gong Gong, people know the etiquette", and the Liang Dynasty has been known as "the beauty of cultural relics, which has only been seen in Jiangzuo for two hundred years".

Xiao Yan believed that "although Lao Tzu, Zhou Gong, Confucius, etc. are disciples of Rulai, but the traces are evil, they are only the good of the world, and they cannot be sanctified." Therefore, there is also a deep belief in Buddhism and Taoism. In order to study Buddhism, on March 8, 527, the eighth year of the ordinary year (527), he personally went to Tongtai Temple for the first time to lay down his life and returned three days later.

Later, due to the rebellion of Taoism coupled with his growing age. The reason for Xiao Yan's tendency toward Buddhism in his later years was that due to the intensification of social contradictions caused by the fainting in the late period of his reign, the elderly wanted to believe in the gods and let the gods resolve the grievances of the general public.

So, in order to fulfill his wish, to save his people and his empire. On September 15, the third year of Datong (529), the second time to Tongtai Temple held the "Four Unshackled Assemblies", took off the imperial robe, changed into a monk's robe, sacrificed himself to renounce his family, and on September 16, he explained the "Great Nirvana Sutra", on the twenty-fifth day, the Qunchen donated 100 million yuan, prayed to the "Three Treasures", and asked for the redemption of the "Emperor Bodhisattva", and on the twenty-seventh day Xiao Yan returned to the world; on April 10, the twelfth year of Datong (546), Xiao Yan became a monk for the third time, this time the Qunchen redeemed it with 200 million yuan; in the first year of the Taiqing Dynasty (547), Xiao Yan became a monk for the fourth time on March 3. He lived in Tongtai Temple for thirty-seven days, and on April 10, the imperial court paid 100 million yuan to redeem it.

Before that, people who believed in Buddhism were going to eat meat. Ke Xiaoyan invoked the "Lengya Sutra", "Nirvana Sutra" and other Tibetan classics such as "the meat eater breaks the great compassion seed" and advocated a comprehensive vegetarian diet. So start with yourself, not close to the female color, do not eat meat. And nationwide promotion. Since then, all Buddhists have begun to stop eating meat and not being close to women.

Because of his own lily, he accepted the Eastern Wei rebel general Hou Jing with two sides and three swords, and later promised the Eastern Wei to exchange Hou Jing. The villain who led hou Jing. In the end, he was starved to death in the Pure Residence Hall of the Taicheng Imperial Palace, which can also be regarded as his four renunciations, which is "I don't go to hell, who goes to hell?" This rebellion also dealt a huge blow to the economy and culture of the Southern Dynasty. It is also a great disaster for Han culture. It also laid the groundwork for the unification of the Sui Dynasty later.

The long-lived emperors in history were all in the early stages, and as they grew older, the imperial power reached its peak. He began to be obsessed with self-indulgence and great joy and decay. In the end, the empire was in chaos, gradually weakening and falling apart.
