In an interview with the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, actor Matt Smith talked about his original role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Since the character was removed before filming began, he did not have the opportunity to participate in the film.

Asked if he would actually play Palpatine's son, Smith said there was no comment but admitted that his role was quite crucial. "This character is indeed a very novel concept, with considerable transformative significance."

Smith said he and the filmmakers had discussed what to wear for his character, but it didn't go any further, and he hadn't even seen the costume.
