Zhoushan, China, October 21 (Fang Kun Zhang Raindrop) "Under the vision of carbon neutrality, the traditional international energy pattern based on fossil energy will accelerate the transformation. On the 21st, at the 2021 Financial Reform and Phase-to-Date Cooperation Forum held in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province, at the special meeting of the World Oil Merchants Conference, Wang Zhen, secretary of the Party Committee and president of the Energy Economic Research Institute of CNOOC Group, said that the future energy system will develop in the direction of clean, low-carbon, efficient and integrated.

At the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, China announced that it will vigorously support the development of green and low-carbon energy in developing countries and will not build new offshore coal power projects. It is understood that nearly two-thirds of the countries have clearly defined carbon neutrality goals, and the concept of carbon neutral development has once again been upgraded and deepened, providing long-term cooperation opportunities for the international low-carbon economy in related industries, and guiding international green capital flows, green industries and renewable energy venture capital investment and financing.

"From carbon peaking to carbon neutrality, the European Union has gone through about 70 years, the United States and Japan have experienced about 40 years, while China has only 30 years. The carbon reduction process embodied in China will present a curve with a steep slope. Wang Zhen said that China is currently the world's largest producer and consumer of energy. In 2020, China's carbon emissions will be 9.8 billion tons, accounting for 31% of the world's total. Since 1751, cumulative carbon emissions have reached 200 billion tons, accounting for 12.7% of the global total.

In addition to the challenges of a large slope in emission reduction and a large total emissions, Wang Zhen also said that China is still in the stage of industrialization and development, the task of economic development is arduous, and the energy demand will be rigid, while China's energy structure is partial to coal and energy utilization efficiency is low. In 2020, the proportion of China's coal consumption will be 56.8%, 30 percentage points higher than the world average. In 2019, the energy consumption per unit of GDP was 0.49 tons of standard coal/10,000 yuan, which was 1.7 times the world average and 2.9 times the average of developed countries.

Under the "two major" and "double" challenges facing China's "double carbon" goal, Wang Zhen said that China's oil and gas demand will maintain a growth momentum in the future. "In a carbon-neutral scenario, China's crude oil consumption is expected to peak around 2025, peaking at 15 million b/d and about 6 million b/d in 2050. China's natural gas consumption is likely to maintain rapid growth in the next 10 years, and it is expected that the peak will appear around 2035, and the peak consumption will be about 600 billion cubic meters. ”

"Under the vision of carbon neutrality, the energy industry will face a reshaping of development trends." Wang Zhen said, "Specifically, the 'double carbon' goal will accelerate the transformation of the energy industry from 'resource-led, capital-led' to 'technology-led, capital-led', major subversive technologies in the energy field continue to emerge, new technologies, new formats, new industries emerge in an endless stream, the energy transformation characterized by green and low carbon will bring new opportunities to the development of human society, and fossil energy will gradually give way from 'basic energy' to 'supplementary and backup energy'." ”

Wang Zhen believes that the development trend of the energy industry will present "four inevitable" characteristics: energy infrastructure will inevitably accelerate upgrading; traditional energy will inevitably develop high; energy technology system will inevitably accelerate innovation; and a new round of material revolution will inevitably accelerate. "The characteristics of unmanned and automated energy facilities will be more prominent. The boundaries of oil and gas, electricity, and new energy will become increasingly blurred, and decarbonized industries and technologies will become an important starting point for achieving carbon neutrality goals.
