Qing Dynasty Chen Yixi Xingshu Appreciation of the Preface to the Tengwang Pavilion, Aya ben, 22×170cm, Jiangxi Provincial Museum collection.

Chen Yixi, together with Jiang Chenying, Wang Shifeng, and He Zhuo, was known as the four great masters of the book world during the Kangxi Dynasty. Kangxi himself loved calligraphy and greatly admired Dong Qichang's calligraphy style, and the ministers who imitated Dong Qichang's calligraphy in the DPRK were mostly favored and reused, and a number of calligraphers who revered Dong and Fa Dong appeared. Although Chen Yixi is also influenced by the family style and the wind of the times, he has anti-Dong thoughts in his heart. In the later period, he worked hard to learn from the Jin, Tang and Song dynasties in order to reach a higher realm.
