On the twentieth day of the first month of the sixth year of Taiyan (440), Frustrated Qu had Tang Er stay in Dunhuang, and he and Frustrated Qu Yide led an army to besiege Jiuquan, which was occupied by Northern Wei. Yuan Yu despised Depression Canal and went out of the city to talk with The Depression Canal Army, and Depression Canal had no secret to capture him. On the 23rd day of the first month, the Yuan's troops held firm one after another, and the depressed canal was still besieging Jiuquan. In March, due to the lack of food in Jiuquan City, Frustrated Canal attacked Jiuquan without any secrets.

In October 441, when there was a famine in Jiuquan City, the grain in the city was exhausted, and more than 10,000 people starved to death, and the defenders killed his wife and distributed her flesh to the warriors to fill their hunger. On October 22, food in the city was cut off, so Xi Yu conquered Jiuquan City, captured Tianzhou, and escorted him to Pingcheng for execution. At that time, the Northern Wei army was very strong, and there was a famine in the frustrated canal, fearing that they could not save themselves, and wanted to lead the people west across the desert to avoid its sharp edge. In November, Frustrated Qu Wu sent An Zhou to lead 5,000 men to the west to attack the state of Shanshan. The King of Shanshan, Bi Long, was afraid to surrender, and it happened that Northern Wei envoys arrived and persuaded Bi Long to resist and hold on. An Zhou attacked Shanshan continuously, but failed to conquer it, so he had to withdraw his army and hold on to the occupied Eastern City.

In April of the third year of the Taiping Dynasty (442), Frustrated Qu Wuxian led more than 10,000 people to abandon Dunhuang and meet Depressed Qu An Zhou to the west. Fearing that Bi Long, the king of Shan, led 4,000 men westward to the end, and Bi Long's eldest son surrendered to An Zhou, and Frustrated Qu took the opportunity to occupy Shan, but more than half of his soldiers died of thirst while crossing the desert area.

Later Western Liang's uncle Tang Qi attacked Gaochang Taishou Kan Shuang, and Kan Shuang heard that The Depression Canal had reached Shanshan, so he sent envoys to defraud The Depression Canal, ostensibly expressing his willingness to attack Tang Qi together with the Depression Canal, but in fact wanting to let the Depression Canal and Tang Qi attack each other. In August, Fengqu left his nephew Fengzhou to garrison Shanshan, and he led his army from the northeast of Yanqi to Gaochang to rescue him. Frustrated Canal Wuxian had not yet arrived, Rouran had sent troops to rescue Gao Chang and kill Tang Qi, Tang Qi's men defected to Frustrated Canal, and Kan Shuang closed the city gates and refused to meet With Depression Canal. In September, the general Wei Xingnu of the Depression Qu Wuxia faction attacked Gaochang at night, washing the whole city in blood, and Kan Shuang defected to Rouran. Frustrated Qu occupied Gaochang without concealment. In the same year, Frustrated Qu Wu sent Chang Shu jun (常侍汜俊) to the Southern Song Dynasty with a musical watch, and offered local specialties. The Southern Song Emperor Liu Yilong (劉義隆) appointed Emperor Wen of Song (劉義隆) to appoint Fengqu Wushi as an envoy, a regular attendant on horseback, a military governor of the three prefectures of Lianghe Sha, a general in the conquest of the West, a general in the Xiongnu, a lieutenant in The Western Yi Commandery, a liangzhou assassin, and a prince of Hexi, and the northern Liang regime in Gaochang was established. In 443 AD, the founding name was "Chengping".
