Who Wants to Wait for a Lifetime – The Long Marriage Contract (Tragic Version of Angel Amelie)

The French girl Matilda (Audrey Totu) is disabled by polio, and the boy from the same village, Manek (Gaspard Ullier), is her young lover, and the two have been engaged, but with the outbreak of World War I, Manek enlisted in the army and the marriage contract became far away.

The war was long and brutal, but Matilda thought she had a wonderful connection between herself and Manek, and she was convinced that Manek was still alive.

In 1920, Matilda received bad news: five French soldiers were sentenced to death by their own military commission for self-harm and thrown to death in front of the enemy's "Evening Bingo" trench, the youngest of whom was Manek.

Matilda began to search for the truth with difficulty, she went to a private investigator to investigate, entrusted people to check the relevant documents of the military, and persevered to visit the survivors of the "Evening Bingo" trenches, and did not hesitate to exhaust the inheritance left by her parents.

The search process is painful and long, and Matilda seems to have personally experienced the horrors of war, and knows more secrets of the "Twilight Bingo" trench...

Who Wants to Wait for a Lifetime – The Long Marriage Contract (Tragic Version of Angel Amelie)

From the tragic version of "Angel Amelie", which was known as the film's promotional period, to the "from the derector of amelie" printed on the film poster, we simply can't ignore the connection between the two films. The style of the film and angel Amelie seem to be the same ~ the same director, the same actor, the same narrative technique, the different tone. The same effect is achieved.

Who Wants to Wait for a Lifetime – The Long Marriage Contract (Tragic Version of Angel Amelie)

War itself does not reflect the bloodiness and bitterness of war; the weight of tragedy can only be perceived by focusing on the occasional and painful narrative of each individual. Mathilde parted from her beloved fiancé Manek during the war. Rumor has it that Manek was sentenced to death for self-harm during the war and, along with four other prisoners convicted of self-harm, was abandoned by the military to fend for himself in no-man's land at Bingo Twilight.

Who Wants to Wait for a Lifetime – The Long Marriage Contract (Tragic Version of Angel Amelie)

It's a story about searching. Even though her fiancé's name was clearly listed on the list of fallen soldiers, and even after witnessing his tombstone, Mathilde was still reluctant to believe that the boy was dead. How much courage it takes for a woman to insist on the hope that everyone has given up; not to stand still and wait, but to run and search for all clues about him, and how much enthusiasm and persistence it takes.

Who Wants to Wait for a Lifetime – The Long Marriage Contract (Tragic Version of Angel Amelie)

This is a movie that makes you tear up after watching it. The steadfastness of love makes you sigh! This is the long love, the long wait. War and love are always the two main themes of the movie, and it is so perfect to combine these two themes. From the beginning of the film's publicity, it was in the name of the tragic version of angel love beauty. Manek is not dead and he will always live
