Yu Benmin: The great steward of the Red Army troops

After the defeat of the Great Revolution, the claws of the Kuomintang reactionaries reached into Pingjiang and created a counter-revolutionary incident of snatching the guns of the peasant army.

Yu's move made the Kuomintang authorities frightened, so they tried to trick him into accepting the reorganization of the government army. Yu Benmin saw through the Kuomintang conspiracy at a glance, decided to take the plan to account, and took people with 80 broken guns to participate in the reorganization, the Kuomintang authorities were ashamed and angry, so they arrested his mother and paraded in the streets, but Yu Benmin's revolutionary will was unwavering, and he still took his children and 5 people to make a revolution together. Under the command and leadership of Yu Benmin, the Pingjiang Workers' and Peasants' Volunteer Army became more and more courageous, and soon grew to more than 1,000 people.

After the reorganization of Sanwan, Yu Benmin followed Chairman Mao to Jinggangshan and continued to take charge of the logistics of the troops. At that time, the logistical situation of the troops was very grim, and in order to smash the enemy's economic blockade of the base areas, the military and people in the base areas tried every means to actively carry out production and self-help, and decided to set up a number of factories related to military supplies and people's livelihood.

The importance of the garment factory is very important, so the heavy responsibility of establishing the garment factory falls on the shoulders of Yu Benmin, but the necessary conditions such as funds, plant, equipment, and personnel required to run the factory are nothing. After accepting the task, Yu Benmin overcame many difficulties and built the first quilt factory in Taoliao Village at the foot of the HuangyangJie Mountain, producing cotton clothes, cotton pants, leggings, as well as quilts, rice bags, bullet bags, and so on.

Jinggangshan was freezing cold, and the Red Army, dressed in single clothes and single pants, was supplemented by this batch of winter clothes, which was to send charcoal in the snow. Yang Lisan, director of the Left Behind Office, knew that Yu Benmin had severe rheumatoid arthritis, so he took out a set of military uniforms from it and said to Yu Benmin: "This set of cotton clothes and cotton pants will be kept for you, you are not in good health, and you can't stay up like this!" Yang Lisan's kindness was politely rejected by Yu Benmin, who said: "It is still necessary to meet the needs of the comrades in the front first, my difficulty is nothing." ”

During Yu Benmin's tenure as a member of the Cpc's Xianggan-Gansu Border Special Committee and the Minister of Finance of the Workers', Peasants' and Soldiers' Soviet Government on the Xianggan-Gansu Border, the property confiscated by the localities and the Red Army against local tycoons was uniformly managed and allocated by the financial department, among which valuable items such as gold bracelets and gold rings were personally kept by Yu Benmin. Before getting married, his mother-in-law asked him to send a ring to his wife as a wedding gift, and Yu Benmin replied, "I have a lot of rings here, but they are all public, and I can't move half of them." ”

In early 1932, in order to cover the transfer of the provincial party committee, Yu Benmin was wounded in battle, and unfortunately died in 1933 due to lack of timely treatment. Until the time of Yu's death, he still wore a pair of old straw shoes that he had knitted himself.

I am afraid that all the hardships experienced in the war years are unimaginable to us in the era of peace. But we can read "hardship and suffering" in these revolutionary stories. This bitterness is not as different as the alcohol content of sweet wine, beer, and liquor, but it is multifaceted--living bitter, eating bitterly, dressing bitterly, poorly equipped, fighting bitterly by the enemy, and the medical conditions at the time of injury and illness are even more backward and bitter.

These are not the deepest but only deeper sufferings, which makes people now shudder when they think about it. But the Red Army at that time broke through the darkness under such conditions and paved the bright road of revolutionary victory with blood.
