At 8 a.m. on the third day of the Chinese New Year, Du Yongqiang began another day of maintenance and inspection work. Departing from the front hall on the first floor of Beijing Daxing International Airport, he and his co-workers carried toolboxes and carried out equipment inspections along the route that had been walked hundreds of times, leaving no corner behind. This Spring Festival, Beijing Daxing International Airport first welcomed the test of large passenger flow, in order to ensure the orderly operation of the "Steel Phoenix", a 50-person maintenance team worked day and night in the core area of the terminal.

"I've walked through every corner of here." Du Yongqiang, born in 1997, is extremely familiar with Daxing Airport. On June 30, 2019, when the completion of this "steel phoenix" was announced, Du Yongqiang, as the maintenance personnel of the new airport project department of Beijing Urban Construction Group, entered the core area of the terminal and assumed the responsibility of "guarding the wings". Since then, 20,000 steps a day has become a compulsory course for him, and he knows every patrol route.

What is the main job of maintenance? A simple summary is to inspect and ensure the normal operation of electricity, water, heating and other systems, as well as the normal use of facilities and equipment in various areas of the airport. Take the morning of the second day of the first grade, Du Yongqiang's inspection route starts from the west bus passage door on the first floor to the front hall of the first floor, and checks all the way to the east bus passage door, including four public toilets. "When inspecting, the most important thing is to look at the six roads and listen to the eight directions." One morning, with the cooperation of another worker, he repaired a passage door and a bathroom partition lock.

"Whether it's day or night, our requirements for maintenance personnel are to respond and be on site within 15 minutes." Zhao Haichuan, the project secretary, told reporters that facilities with high frequency of use, such as doors, stair steps, handrails, and toilets, are the focus of daily inspections by maintenance personnel. In order to ensure that it does not affect the use of passengers, vulnerable parts such as door locks, handles, door closers, faucets, valves and other vulnerable parts are also prepared in advance and can be replaced at any time.

"When we go to bed at night, we will also be alert and make sure that the task comes and we can put on our overalls and leave." Du Yongqiang remembers that the latest time, at 3 o'clock in the middle of the night, there was an access control in the international area that was found to be closed, and after receiving the notice, he and his co-workers immediately got up from the dormitory area and arrived at the scene in 15 minutes. In other cases, some non-urgent but more complicated repairs will be especially left at night, just to prevent passengers from traveling.

It is understood that during this Spring Festival, a 50-person maintenance team was left on duty in the core area of the terminal building of Beijing Daxing International Airport, many of whom were like Du Yongqiang and spent the Spring Festival outside their hometown for the first time. "People have to work harder when they are young, not to mention to provide protection for the 'new country', such an opportunity is rare." Du Yongqiang, who voluntarily applied to stay behind, his greatest pride is that every passenger can experience the best service here. Reporter Zhao Yingying
