The landing on the island began at 8:00 a.m. local time on the 25th. The so-called "island landing" is to use a kayak to send people to the ice sheet, and then return to the boat by kayak after the tour.
The island that is landed today is called "Half Moon Island", which is named after the shape of half moon. It has an area of 2.4 square kilometers and is located in the South Shetland Islands.
The color of Half Moon Island
Half Moon Island is located at the entrance to Moon Bay on the east side of Livingston Island on the edge of the Antarctic Peninsula, and is only 2 km long. It is home to about 3,300 pairs of caped penguins, and Antarctic terns, skuas, black-backed gulls, Wilson storm petrels, and blue-eyed cormorants also nest here. In 1955, Argentina established a research base for the South Pole Kamala Station on the island, surrounded by beautiful mountains.
There is an Argentine research station on the west of the island, and going south along the path taken by the expedition team, I saw a Weddell seal, lying on the snow, shaking its head and tail, but not moving.
To the east of the island there are many penguins crawling up the hill. Met Fan Zhaocheng of An County, Zhen'an County, Shaanxi Province, graduated from Tsinghua University, majored in computer science, and just came to Pangluo Company as an expedition team member. According to him, it was a penguin with a hat belt and a black line on its head, resembling a strap on a police officer's hat.
The wind was so strong that the camera froze to death several times and the phone froze to death. The heavens and the earth are surprisingly quiet, as if at the beginning of creation. After an hour, return to the ship.
