From August 6th to 7th, under the leadership of teachers, six primary school students from Guangzhou Huashifu Primary School, Peizheng Primary School and other schools came to Dinghushan National Nature Reserve with a strong interest in nature and participated in the second phase of Dinghushan's 2018 summer camp with the theme of "Exploring the Forest, Getting Close to Nature".

On the first day of the event, a fun lecture on "Dinghu Mountain Biodiversity" kicked off the summer camp activity, through which everyone learned about the uniqueness of Dinghushan Nature Reserve, China's first nature reserve, and its rich wildlife resources. Among them, the special phenomenon of plants in the reserve, beautiful and cute birds, creepy poisonous snakes and huge poisonous fungi have impressed the children, and everyone can't wait to see it for themselves.

Subsequently, under the leadership of the staff of the reserve, they visited the exhibition hall of the China Nature Reserve located in the Protected Area Administration, scientific research facilities and endangered wild botanical gardens, etc., and the children's eyes were deeply attracted by various snake, butterfly, bird and mammal specimens, and they learned about a new way of pollination of plants and rare and endangered plants newly discovered in Dinghu Mountain. After the visit, the children also acted as wildlife monitors, experiencing it themselves in the wild, using infrared cameras to monitor wild animals.

A thunderstorm in the evening washed the air of Dinghu Mountain clean, and when night fell, the sounds of frogs around the pond and the cries of crickets and crickets came and went, and they were particularly clear. Children can't resist the curiosity of their hearts to explore the "night spirit" of Dinghu Mountain, because it has just rained, the ground is wet, horses, black toads and various snails can be seen everywhere, in addition to fireflies, spotted-legged pan-tree frogs, swamp water frogs, and adult chameleon tree lizards that spend the night in the trees and a small chameleon tree lizard that has just hatched this year.

The next day's activity is to go deep into the Xixi Field Environmental Education Trail of Dinghu Mountain Conservation Area to "hike the original forest and explore the beauty of nature". Despite the rough and steep road ahead, the children were not frightened, and they were ready early, with binoculars looking around for cute little animals that were foraging in the treetops or frolicking in the bushes. Along the way, not only did you know a lot of plants named after Dinghu Lake, but also saw gray-eyed finches foraging in the bushes, black short-legged grebes that shuttled through the forest, large-billed crows that stopped at the top of trees and chirped, birds such as large, Hainan blue fairy grebes, brown-necked hook-billed grebes, gray-backed swallowtails, golden-spotted tiger beetles, eye-catching butterflies, warm dawn butterflies and locusts; in addition, a not very common black-headed sword snake was also found, and everyone was both excited and scared at the time.

Hiking the original forest requires a lot of physical energy, but in the whole adventure process, no child said tired, they persevered, greatly enhanced their willpower, but also encouraged each other, help each other, which is the general classroom education can not give children. This summer camp activity is rich in content and diverse in form, including knowledge classes to enhance children's scientific literacy, as well as fun games to exercise their teamwork ability.

Dinghu Mountain "Explore the Forest, Close to Nature" summer camp activities are specially planned by Dinghu mountain National Nature Reserve for the summer vacation, using its rich natural resources, profound history and culture, diverse scientific research facilities and fruitful scientific research achievements, etc., to design targeted courses for organizations and groups in need, the activities are diverse, and both scientific and interesting, can meet the needs of people of different ages and different levels. Through perceiving nature, experiencing teaching, edutainment and other ways, cultivate students' love for nature, improve students' scientific literacy and interest, and achieve the purpose of environmental education in which man and nature coexist in harmony.
