Su Shuyang, pen name Shu Yang, is a native of Baoding, Hebei. He graduated from the Department of Communist Party History of Chinese University in 1960. He has taught at Chinese Min University, Hebei Beijing Normal University (now Hebei Normal University), Beijing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (now Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine), etc. In 1953, he began to create literature and art, in 1978 he was transferred to beijing film studio as a screenwriter, and after 1979, he served as a director of the China Writers Association and vice chairman of the China Filmmakers Association.

Su Shuyang's representative works include the script "Dan Xin Spectrum", "The Courtyard" (also known as "Left Neighbor Right House"), "Xizhao Street", "Spring Rain Xiaoxiao", etc., the script collection "Su Shuyang Script Selection", the short story collection "Wedding Collection", the long novel "Homeland", the children's book "Son of the Earth - The Story of Zhou Enlai", the historical and cultural prose collection "Chinese Reader", the poetry collection "About Love" and so on. Among them, the drama "Dan Xin Spectrum" won the first prize for the creation of a gift to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and "Left Neighbor and Right House" won the National Drama, Opera and Opera Excellent Script Award. Published in 15 languages and distributed in more than 12 million copies worldwide, China Reader has become an example of Chinese books "going global".

In 1994, Su Shuyang was diagnosed with kidney cancer, and since then he has embarked on a decades-long journey of fighting cancer. He has undergone many surgeries and radiation therapy, passed the threshold of cancer three times, and in the 25 years of fighting cancer, he respected science, persevered and optimismed, and wrote about 3 million words of outstanding works in addition to treatment.

He once said, "At least half of a person's life is in your own hands." If you can treat it correctly after getting sick, then when you encounter Kan'er, others will pull you along, and you will add some oil yourself. ...... Although I am sick, I can see it - anyway, it is already like this, simply treat the illness as a friend in life, play together! I guess I'm a healthy patient."
