On April 15, after identification, Qingdao Post Office Customs, a subsidiary of Qingdao Customs, seized 38 illegally imported live ants, including 23 ants of the genus Minotaur and 15 ants of the genus Tortoise.

When the customs officer carried out the machine inspection of the incoming and outgoing mail, he found that the machine inspection image of the incoming mail was suspicious, and immediately opened the box for inspection. After inspection, the mail contained a foam box, the bottom and surrounding stuffed with kraft paper, the top covered with an insulated bag, the foam box is simply wrapped with tape. Opening the foam box, a large amount of foam buffers and 7 insulated bags bundled with tape into a columnar shape were found, each containing 4 to 5 tin foil-wrapped test tubes, for a total of 32. Each tube contained 1 adult live ant and several other tubes contained larvae of the same species, resulting in a total of 38 live ants. There is a small amount of water at the bottom of the test tube, separated from the ants by cotton, there is plenty of room for movement and food in the middle, and the mouth of the test tube is simply sealed with cotton and tape.

These ants are huge, with adult ants ranging from 25 to 45 mm long and vigorous. It is understood that some species of ants in the genus Bulldog ant are known as "the most dangerous ants in the world" and are extremely aggressive and toxic.

According to customs regulations, live insects are prohibited from being mailed into the country. At present, the mail has been further processed according to the regulations.
