Fishermen say the "mutated" live fish appearing on the side of the chemical plant responds to an infected parasite

A number of netizens posted that the live fish came from the waters south of a chemical plant in Xiuyu District, Putian, which was called "leprosy fish" by locals, and believed that the chemical plant's sewage endangered the seafood environment.

On the 7th, Chen Xiaoxu, deputy mayor of Xiuyu District, told the surging news (www.thepaper.cn) that the Putian Municipal Bureau of Oceanography and Fisheries had reported the investigation of "leprosy fish" on the same day, and the fish in the video was caught by local people in the inlet and drainage gates of the Xipu Reclamation District of Dongpu Village on the north bank of Meizhou Bay, and the red raised spots on the fish were caused by iodine bubble worm parasitizing the body surface of the mullet

On the evening of the 7th, the Putian Municipal Bureau of Oceanography and Fisheries announced on its official website that iodophyllum is a non-toxic parasite, often in the form of a sac in the form of silt for a long time, in a certain water temperature and climate conditions, the sac splits out of many spores, parasitizes the body surface of the mullet in freshwater fish or seawater, and presents large and small circular sacs on the scales and tail fins, and red raised spots due to body surface bleeding.

The notification shows that, according to aquaculture farmers around the capture area, this phenomenon has also occurred in previous years. The Putian Municipal Bureau of Oceanography and Fisheries called for stronger supervision and prohibited the public from catching the fish when the floodgates were released.

Fishermen are required to bury or burn the diseased fish harmlessly to prevent the parasite from breeding and multiplying in the silt. At the same time, fishermen are instructed to use quicklime to carry out thorough pond disinfection, kill the iodine bubble spores in the silt, and reduce the epidemic of pathogens.

However, the notice did not mention shellfish products with suspected "tumors" in the pictures transmitted online.

A Ms. Dai, who lives in Xiuyu District, told The Paper that the location of her home is less than a kilometer from a local factory and there is a power plant nearby, and when the window is opened, you can often smell the irritating smell, which is very pungent.

In February 2015, during the Lunar New Year, Ms. Dai received sea oyster aquatic products from local friends who made water, and nearly half of the more than five catties of sea oysters had white tumors on their bodies and did not dare to eat them.

The surging news has repeatedly called the owner of the aquatic product shop to try to inquire about the white tumor of the sea oyster, but as of press time, the other party has not answered the phone.
