Wang Xudong x Qu Xiangdong: a new flashpoint in Gansu's cultural tourism industry

In the long history, different ethnic groups, different races, multiple religions, and diverse cultures have exchanged, collided, integrated, and developed in Dunhuang, an important town in the Hexi Corridor, where Chinese culture, Indian culture, Persian culture, and Greek culture have been brought together, and finally a colorful, rich and thick Dunhuang culture has been formed.

On April 22-24, 2019, the Annual Meeting of China Green Company will be held in this cultural and tourism town, and the city will once again shine with thousands of entrepreneurs, scholars and media.

Why has Dunhuang become a place where the four major civilizations of China, India, Greece and Islam in the world blend? What other cultural connotations in Gansu have the potential of world-class IP? In the international context of the "Belt and Road", what opportunities and challenges will Gansu Cultural Tourism usher in? How to further enhance the innovation and core competitiveness of Gansu cultural tourism? What new formats and new products will be spawned by Gansu's "tourism +" strategy?

Wang Xudong x Qu Xiangdong: a new flashpoint in Gansu's cultural tourism industry

Wang Xudong, president of the Dunhuang Research Institute, was originally a science and engineering man, who arrived in Dunhuang by chance 28 years ago and began to do the restoration and protection of cave murals. In his mind, the core connotation of Dunhuang culture is compassion, wisdom and beauty.

He led the Dunhuang Research Institute to manage the protection, research and promotion of the six major grottoes in Gansu - Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, Dunhuang West Thousand Buddha Caves, Guazhou Yulin Grottoes, Tianshui Maijishan Grottoes, Yongjing Bingling Temple Grottoes, and Qingyang North Grottoes. In recent years, in excavating the humanistic values and modern spirit contained in Dunhuang culture, expanding communication channels and methods, telling the "Dunhuang Story" with the help of the Internet, further expanding the influence of Dunhuang culture in the world, and achieving many achievements in the protection of cultural relics and cultural promotion.

In the early years of the Tang Dynasty, Xuanzang took the route from Chang'an, crossing the Hexi Corridor, crossing the Xingxing Gorge and the Quicksand River, entering Hami, and then crossing the Tarim Basin of the Turpan Basin, climbing the Pamir Plateau, crossing the Hindu Kush Mountain Daban, and entering India. Xuanzang had experienced four days and five nights of dripping water, almost dying in the vast desert, and had also suffered an avalanche in the Tianshan Mountains for seven days before he was able to get out of the mountain. Xuanzang's road is full of hardships, and it is completely impossible to achieve without great faith and courage.

Wang Xudong x Qu Xiangdong: a new flashpoint in Gansu's cultural tourism industry

This dangerous and wonderful journey aroused Qu Xiangdong's interest. Because it is not only a journey, but also with the experience and promotion of xuanzang spirit.

Previously, Qu Xiangdong was a famous host of CCTV and an explorer of the vast Gobi. He gave the first impression of a literati who had read poetry and books, with a polite temperament, a Sven face, and rational criticism. He is a realistic idealist who has been trying to practice an idealistic life with a realistic attitude.

More than a decade ago, he decided to plan and launch a large-scale cultural expedition "Xuanzang Road". Subsequently, he planned and launched Xuanzang Road "Gobi Challenge of Business School", "Gobi Coming of Age Ceremony", "Blade Leadership Practice Camp" and other events and high-end leadership training activities.

The Xuanzang Road Business School Gobi Challenge is an experiential cultural event held among eMBA students. The race section is located in the MoheYan Moraine Gobi at the junction of Gansu and Xinjiang - known in history as "eight hundred miles of quicksand", more than 1,300 years ago, Master Xuanzang experienced hunting, abandonment, lost, wandering, life and death... By re-walking this 112-kilometer unmanned Gobi, look deep inside for the tremendous energy that allows life to climb, so as to embrace the higher challenges of life with a more positive, healthier, and longer-lasting drive.

Qu Xiangdong's concept of "integrated development of culture, sports and tourism industries" and the innovative formation of the "Experience Research Institute" of Xingzhi Exploration constructively promote the transformation and development of outdoor global tourism. He firmly believes that nature is the home and destination of the human soul, as he often said: the answer is in the vast universe, in the Gobi spring.

About the development, integration and reconstruction of Gansu's cultural tourism industry... We look forward to their dialogue in Dunhuang.
