Shanghai, July 13 (Xinhua) -- On May 30, 1925, the May 30 anti-imperialist patriotic movement that shocked China and foreign countries burned like a volcano throughout Shanghai, and then swept across China. The heroic sacrifice of Gu Zhenghong, a member of the Chinese Communist Party and a pioneer of the Chinese workers' movement, was the fuse of this movement.
On May 30, 2008, the Gu Zhenghong Memorial Hall was completed and opened at the original site of his martyrdom. This year, in order to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, The Putuo District of Shanghai has carried out a comprehensive renovation and upgrading of the Gu Zhenghong Memorial Hall, showing the life deeds of Gu Zhenghong martyrs and the major historical event of the May Thirtieth Movement.
Entering the summer, the newly opened Gu Zhenghong Memorial Hall has become another eye-catching red landmark in Shanghai. The reporter found that many citizens and tourists have a strong interest in the unique architectural design of the memorial.
According to the relevant person on the design side of Gu Zhenghong Memorial Hall, the exterior of the venue building adopts rust-resistant weathering steel material, creating a set of staggered cube combinations, combined with the way of steel column retreat and cantilevered on all sides, so that the appearance of the building is shaped like a dancing "red ribbon", and has become the most iconic image feature of the venue. "Red Silk" connects areas such as rest in front of the museum, visits in the museum, and martyrdom places, and skillfully chimerizes with the contents of the exhibition in the museum, metaphorically depicting the red road traveled by the revolutionary martyrs.
"The reason why the rusty weather-resistant steel plate was chosen as the building façade material is because the steel represents the class characteristics of the workers' revolutionaries and also represents the workers' indomitable will to struggle, which is most in line with the image of Gu Zhenghong's martyr." Zhang Nan, chief designer of the memorial hall, said that rust steel was originally just abandoned waste material, but through clever design, it is now rejuvenated, which is not only artistic, but also in line with the current concept of sustainable development.
In addition, the martyrdom also reflects the ingenuity of the designers. The 5 stone steles are all granite stone, arranged from large to small, smooth surface and concave and convex surface, the stone stele is engraved with "Gu Zhenghong Martyrdom" several large characters, the largest of which is also engraved with a golden five-pointed star pattern. "The effect of light and shadow caused by sunlight passing through the gap of the monument is just like the spiritual light of the martyr shining on the earth." A young visitor said.
Putuo District was once one of the areas with the highest concentration of industrial workers in Shanghai, as well as the birthplace of the Chinese workers' movement and one of the important activities of the party's early organizations, known as "red Huxi". In recent years, the Putuo District Cultural and Tourism Bureau has relied on the resources of red venues such as Gu Zhenghong Memorial Hall, Huxi Workers Half-Day School Historical Materials Exhibition Hall, and Shanghai Textile Museum to tell red stories in the language of cultural tourism, cultivate new landmarks of red tourism, industrial tourism, and Suhe River tourism, and make red the brightest background color in Putuo District.
