In 1859, Nagasaki and Yokohama opened their ports to the outside world, and Japan ended the 200th year of lockdown, also because Nagasaki was the first port city in Japan to open, and the entire city streets were full of European style, among which the Gelaba Garden in Yamanotecho was the residence of the British merchants Thomas Blake Gelaba, Frederick Linger, and William J. Alt when Nagasaki opened. As a result, it is called Gelaba Garden, and is now listed as a modern industrial heritage group in Kyushu and Yamaguchi, a World Heritage Site.
Built on a picturesque hillside with its back to the mountain and a beautiful sea, it is no exaggeration to say that it is the most beautiful place in Nagasaki. Standing at the top of the park, the sea in the distance and the view of Nagasaki are unobstructed.
You can take a tram from Nagasaki Station to Gorabaen Station to the crisp and melodious clanging of the train. The Garden of Colaba is on a hillside. It's a short walk up the hill to the entrance, with gift shops and scented coffee and snack bars.
Seeing delicious food stomach is also a little hungry, see Nagasaki specialty horn meat bun can't help but smell the aroma and buy two. A flat round bun with a knife cut in the middle and a large piece of cooked pork sandwiched here is the famous horn meat bun, which originated in Chinatown, Nagasaki.
It tastes good with the aroma of pork and the soft sticky sweetness of the steamed buns. Walking to a flat area on the hillside, I first saw a beautiful white church standing majestically: the Great Tianpu Church.
The World Heritage Site of the Great Tianpu Church is just around the corner from the Garden of Goraba. Become a guardian of the garden. There are also red brick Catholic churches around, and shop clerks on the corner are doing business at the door. It turns out that the prosperity of the traffic here is gone, and an epidemic that has swept the world has also made the courtyard here much colder.
Walk here to the entrance of the Garden of Colaba. Enter the green fence gate where no one is managing, and then step into the long escalator, on the escalator began to look east and west can not help but get excited, as you go higher and higher, the scenery also slowly opened the curtain. At the end of the escalator is the ticket office, buy a ticket to enter the park.
Pulling open the curtain of the "garden" is amazing, and british businessmen are also too good to enjoy. Surrounded by mountains and seas, Gelaba Garden is exquisite and invincible, sitting on the commanding heights of Nagasaki, bringing Nagasaki under the eyes. The green trees in the park are already the most ordinary scenery that is not worth mentioning, Western-style buildings, light and elegant walls, window ledges, gardens in front of the building and leisure chairs all reveal the taste and aesthetics of the owner at that time, and the flowers and trees are exquisite and cultural. There are also many attractions in the park, among which the pavilion with a wide view is the old Mitsubishi Second Dormitory, which was relocated.
At that time, the dormitory where the crew temporarily stayed during the ship repair, a typical Western-style two-story building, built in Meiji 29, opposite the sea is the Mitsubishi Shipyard, in front of the door is a heart-shaped fish pond, colorful koi fish swim freely in the pool, the Mitsubishi Shipyard on the sea in the distance is clearly visible, and the accommodation treatment given to employees by the established Mitsubishi company is also enviable enough.
It's a shame not to be able to visit the Colaba residence, but regret may be a pretext to leave a reason to come here again in the future.
The cascading staircases of the park, the invincible location of the panoramic view of Nagasaki, the babbling brook under the waterfall wall, the blooming roses, the blue sea and the blue clear sky in the distance make this place unique.
The wooden bungalow, with a construction area of 385.0 square meters, was also acquired by Chuannan Shipbuilding during World War II. After being transferred to the Nagasaki City Government in 1970, it was listed as an Important National Cultural Property in 1972.
It has to be said that the British people's luxury and enjoyment, the Green House faces the sea and blossoms in spring, and the white iron bridge in the distance and the roses in the front garden of the house complement each other. The walls of the house are pale pink, the window ledges are lattice-style, the breath of the old-fashioned British aristocracy comes out, sitting on a chair in the courtyard drinking black tea and watching the scenery, a sense of complacency in the mountains, sitting on the panoramic view of Nagasaki.
The rooms are rich and graceful with velvet curtains, luxurious and elegant red carpets, and ancient sofas, telephones, and wine utensils. It was as if I saw an English gentleman sitting on a couch, sipping red wine and teasing the chat and reception. The outdoor sea view is incredible, and the interior is luxurious and luxurious.
Lamenting the rich and tasteful owner of Greene's house, I wonder how his descendants will feel when they see the luxurious life of their ancestors in the past?
This is the stone where Western cuisine originated.
The House of Gelaba in the Garden of Colaba was not able to enter the original appearance due to maintenance, but it is the largest dwelling here. The wooden bungalow with a construction area of 510.8 square meters is also the earliest wooden Western-style building in Japan according to historical records.
After his death, Gelaba was inherited by a mixed-race son, but in World War II, the Japanese government suspected him of providing intelligence to the British because of his British ancestry, and because the Gelaba residence was high and the sea shipyard was building battleships at the time, so in 1939, mitsubishi Heavy Industries Nagasaki Shipbuilding Institute was forced to take ownership of the building, and The son of Gelaba was forced to return to China, and after the war, it became a dormitory for the US military, and later returned it to the Mitsubishi Company. In 1957, Mitsubishi Shipbuilding delivered the house to the Nagasaki City Government to celebrate its 100th anniversary, and in 1961 it was listed as an important cultural property of the country.
Later, the Japanese government successively moved the Western-style buildings scattered in Nagasaki City here and turned them into a Western-style garden.
There are two other wooden square buildings in the Glover Park, namely the Green House, the residence of Frederick Linger, the official of the Chamber of Commerce of Colaba at that time, and the old Alt House, which Green later bought from his neighbor Ait and called it "Old Ringer House (Brother)", in order to distinguish the Green House as "Brother", Green's original house was called "Brother".
It is said that it is a neighbor of Green Residence, the actual location is in the lower floor of Green House, a wooden bungalow with a construction area of 494.4 square meters, an outbuilding is a brick bungalow with a construction area of 92.4 square meters, and the warehouse is a brick bungalow with a construction area of 12.5 square meters.
The building was built around 1865, after 1867, sold in 1871, used in 1880 by the Living Water Girls' School, purchased by neighbor Redrick Ringer in 1903, and then inherited by the eldest son, so the building will also be marked as the "Old Ringer House (Brother)" and the original building division of the Ringer Family. The same was acquired by Chuannan Shipbuilding during World War II. After being transferred to the Nagasaki City Government in 1970, it was listed as an Important National Cultural Property in 1972.
The area is larger than the Green Residence, but the terrain is relatively low, the view is not as wide as the Green Residence, and it is the last word to stand high and see far.
The courtyard infrastructure is similar, the same birds and flowers, the same elegant and pleasant. The same literary romance. The interior decoration is also roughly the same, and the decoration style is still fashionable and elegant even today.
