In 1938, he was admitted to the Department of Philosophy of Yenching University, and participated in the performances of the Yenching Opera Club, and starred in dramas such as "Thunderstorm" and "Life and Death Love" during the school. In 1941, schools were forced to close after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and Sun Daolin dropped out of school.
Since 1943, he has participated in the China Traveling Theater Troupe, Shanghai Guohua Opera Society and other drama groups. In 1944, he began to work as an actor and choreographer of the Beijing Nanbei Drama Society, and an actor of the Shanghai Guohua Opera Society. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he returned to Yenching University, graduated in 1947, and joined the Peking Art Museum.
