Yutang Spring

Guangzhou Daily News (All-media reporter Huang Dantong photo report) Full of trees and branches stretched to climb the beam top of the ancient tiles, dense purple flowers bloomed in front of the ancient tile cornices, attracting all kinds of birds to compete to roost and sing songs, and the spring flowers of the Early Spring Yutang ignited the entire Chen Clan Ancestral Hall... What the reporter saw in the courtyard of the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall yesterday was a bonsai-like plant Yutang Chun with a height of nearly 7 meters. Looking closer, the whole tree has few leaves, and the dense purple flowers are full of life, competing with the ancient tile cornices of the more than 100-year-old Chen Clan Ancestral Hall in spring, coupled with the bright gray sculptures around the periphery, forming a delicate early spring map of the Lingnan Courtyard.

The reporter learned that in the 1960s and 1970s, most of the trees in the inner courtyard of the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, which were occupied as factory workshops, were cut down, leaving only two plane trees that were more than 100 years old. Most of the trees in the ancestral hall were replanted in the 1980s when the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall reopened to the public, and many large trees, including Yutang Chun, were selected and transplanted from the Guangzhou Flower and Wood Company.

"After nearly 40 years of care, Yutang Spring has now become a 'primrose' in the ancestral hall courtyard, and every year after the Lunar New Year, the Yutang Spring of the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is the first to open, followed by the various colors of Yingshan red and beige osmanthus flowers in March, the white lotus magnolia in April and May, and finally the magnolia in May and June." Retired old curator Li Zhuoqi told reporters.

Although the century-old trees have long disappeared, the Spring Flower Scene of the Jade Hall of the Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is also one of the four major Spring Spots of The Jade Hall in Guangdong, and together with the Qinghui Garden in Shunde, the Yunquan Xianguan in Xiqiao Mountain, and the Baoding Garden in Zhaoqing, the three scenes constitute four spring colors of the Jade Hall in Guangdong.
