In the area of Yubaiding in Yuxi City, there is another rare and endangered species that only exists in China for a long time- the green peacock. Recently, our reporter followed the experts to the jade white roof of Yuxi City and walked into the habitat of the green peacock together.
There are nearly 1,000 species of plants, more than 200 species of birds and large and medium-sized mammals, and nearly 150 species of large fungi in Yuxi City, which is rich in biodiversity.
Pu Xuefeng, ranger of the Yubaiding Nature Reserve Management and Conservation Bureau in Yuxi City: There are probably dozens of green peacocks in this area.
The green peacock is large, but timid by nature. Led by experts, the reporter tried to find the traces of the green peacock. Along the way into the mountains, I encountered a lot of animal traces, but due to the rain some days ago, there were not many traces left by the green peacocks along the way. Eventually, its footprints were found deep in the forest and a few feathers were picked up.
Han Lianxian, secretary general of the Wildlife Conservation Association of Yunnan Province: Middle toe, front toe, this should be ring finger, this is the back toe. The footprints of the green peacock are relatively large and long. The blue light of its (feathers) is a structural color, and when it is turned, the color will be different, it will change, there are blue and green.
At the station, rangers displayed the green peacock tail feathers they had picked up during a previous mountain patrol.
Li Chaofu, ranger of the old worker shed management and protection station of the Yuxi Yubaiding Nature Reserve Management and Conservation Bureau: This period of time has fallen, and the tail feather fell in mid-May. One day I picked up more than 20 of them, and after June I didn't see green peacocks, and I couldn't see any water everywhere.
When the rainy season comes, it is relatively easy for the green peacock to find water, and its traces are even more difficult to find. It is precisely because of the scarcity of the number and the difficulty of finding, China's research on green peacocks is currently only at the most basic level.
Han Lianxian, secretary general of the Yunnan Wildlife Conservation Association: Like the green peacock, we are now studying too little, and the scientific data that can be borrowed and referenced is relatively small, and some of the protection measures of the green peacock make everyone feel that there is no guidance from theory or scientific data, so it is still in the stage of crossing the river by feeling the stones.
