At around 8 p.m. on Nov. 2, a woman and four men were found inside the 44-ton heavy van in the northbound lane near Heathrow Airport. The suspected stowaways were wrapped in a silver space blanket to maintain body temperature before being rushed to the hospital. A police spokesman said: "Thames Valley Police received a call from colleagues in Surrey county reporting that there were 5 people in a refrigerated van on the M25 road. Surrey police stopped the van and Thames Valley police arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of illegally helping asylum seekers smuggle into the UK, who is still in police custody. ”

According to the Home Office, the number of immigrants entering the UK in October this year was six times higher than in October last year. The latest statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics show that 86,000 asylum seekers lived in the UK in June, and since 2014, only 27,000 have had their asylum applications approved.

Previously, on October 23, 2019, the police in Essex County, England, found the remains of 39 Vietnamese citizens entering the Uk from Belgium in a refrigerated van, which temporarily shocked the international community. After the incident, a total of five suspects, including the truck driver involved, Maurice Robinson, a 25-year-old Northern Irishman, were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the murder. In January, the United Kingdom sentenced four of the main perpetrators of the Essex County Truck Massacre to long prison terms. (Editor: Sdy)
