Chris Pratt will voice the Garfield movie.
The new Garfield movie is produced by Alcon Entertainment and distributed by Sony Pictures, and the schedule has not yet been announced.
The screenplay was written by Oscar-nominated David Reynolds (Finding Nemo) and directed by Mark Tindall (Chicken Boy), who previously collaborated on Disney's Becoming King.
David Reynolds, who was nominated for an Olympic Prize for Finding Nemo, will write the screenplay and direct it by Mark Tinddal ("Little Run"). The project has been licensed by Jim Davis, the creator of "Garfield."
The comic book character was created by Davis, who was responsible for both the creative and illustration. The lasagnate-loving, Monday-hating guy first appeared in newspapers in 1976 and, by 1978, had been renamed "Garfield." As of 2013, Garfield holds the Guinness World Record for "the world's most extensive comic strip.".
"Garfield" has also appeared on the big screen before: 2004's Garfield: Movie and 2006's Garfield: Two Kittens' Tails, voiced by Bill Murray. Both films were produced by 20th Century Fox.
Alcon acquired the rights to "Garfield" back in 2016 and announced plans to make a new CG animated film. But since then, the project has barely moved. Now, finally, there is a male protagonist.
Previously, Pratt has voiced for Lego Movies, Pixar's 1/2 Magic, and in addition to dubbing Garfield, Pratt will also play Mario in lighting pictures' animated films.
It's unclear what other characters in the Garfield movie's plot or comic book lineup will be included. At the same time, the film did not announce a release date.
