According to reports, on October 16, China's third comprehensive scientific expedition to the 10,000-meter abyss was successfully completed and returned to Sanya from the waters of the Mariana Trench. The scientific expedition was full of results, and many of them were for the first time in the world.

It is reported that a total of 59 people participated in the scientific expedition team, which lasted 54 days, departed from Sanya on August 24 to the waters of the Mariana Trench, and completed a total of 87 stations and 504 kilometers of bathymetric line operations from multiple disciplines such as deep-sea equipment and technology, geophysics, marine geology and geochemistry, marine biology and physical oceanography.

This scientific expedition achieved many new breakthroughs, and for the first time, 3 lionfish samples of the 7000-meter class and 2 chaff shrimp samples of the 9000-meter class were trapped at low temperature storage; The first fish of the genus S. shrew was found at a depth of 7012 m, which is the largest known depth of survival of the genus; For the first time, in situ enrichment and fixed sampling of microorganisms in vertically stratified water bodies in the whole sea depth were achieved at the same dive, with a maximum depth of 10890 meters.

This scientific expedition also successfully tested the deep-sea equipment independently developed by China, which has strong performance, can work stably for a long time, and reach the world-class level.

Despite encountering super typhoons "Mangkhut" and "Connie" during the 54-day scientific expedition, she overcame difficulties such as bad weather and equipment failures and successfully completed the task.
