The Queen of England visited China to eat the four-gill sea bass that she did not eat (continued) - the difference between four-gill perch and pond sea bass

Yesterday wrote an article about four gill perch, in the evening a look was actually recommended many times, there are many comments, there are many people say that this is called tiger head shark, called wood grandma, etc., we have a lot there, I also replied to a lot of questions in the comments, but it seems that there is no effect, today open a popular science post, to show you the difference between four gill sea bass and pond fish. Yesterday's article linked to "The world's rare four gills perch, the Queen of England asked for a fish and could not".

Four-gill perch, known as Matsue perch, Trachidermus fasciatus Heckel , has a flattened head and a gradually flattened back. The head has a ridge without spines, the front gill cap has 4 spines, the upper spine is the largest, curved upwards. The dorsal fin is continuous, with a deep recess. The mouth is large and the upper jaw is slightly longer. The jawbone, plough bone, and palatine bone all have villous tooth groups. The lower fins of the pectoral fin do not branch. Ventral fin I.-4. There are two orange twill lines on the gill membrane, resembling 2 gill leaves, so it is called "four gill perch". It is a shallow nearshore fish, which generally grows and fattens in the freshwater river area connected to the sea, and after sexual maturity, it descends into the river to lay eggs, and the juvenile fish return to live in the freshwater river. It is found in the Yellow, Bohai and East China Seas and is a valuable edible fish.

There are four species of fish in the Chinese that can be called sea bass, namely: sea bass, scientific name Japanese perch, distributed offshore, and the confluence of fresh water in the estuarine seawater. Songjiang perch, also known as four-gill perch, belongs to the migratory fish of the lower sea and is the most famous. Largemouth bass, also known as California perch, is a new species introduced from the United States. River perch, also known as red perch and wudao black, is native to the northern region of Xinjiang.

Please note that the four-gill perch is a migratory fish, living in the coastal waters and rivers connected to the sea, so Hubei, Xinjiang, Hunan say that you have a lot, you see the pond gill, not the four gill perch, you do not have a river to the sea.

Pond fish, fish family about 16 genera and 30 species. It is found along the coast and in the middle and lower reaches of major rivers. Common genera are Wutang snakehead, pond snakehead, sand pond snakehead, saw pond fish, Meitang snakehead, perch and so on. Pond fish are small edible fish, some species of meat tender, delicious, such as the Chinese Wutang fish produced in the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait, high nutritional value, is a valuable tonic. Sharp-headed pond snakeheads are found in The Minjiang, Pearl and Taiwan rivers of China. Shatang snakehead is produced in China's Yangtze River, Pearl River, Qiantang River, Minjiang River and Taiwan to the northeast.

From a biological point of view, these are two different species of animals, how to distinguish between these two fish, see below.

1. Tail stalk thickness. The fish on these two pictures are about the same size, and it is easy to see that the tail handle of the four-cheeked perch is much thinner than that of the sand pond snakehead

2. Pattern. The upper part of the pattern of the sand pond snakehead is separated from each other and connected to each other on the abdomen, while the pattern of the four-cheeked sea bass is completely separated, and each one is thinner than the pattern of the sand pond snakehead

3. Head. The head of the sand pond perch is very smooth, the head of the four-cheeked perch has more edges and angles, and the gills of the four-cheeked perch in the mature stage are orange, and you can see the head pattern, which is also a basis for identification.

The last one is to look at the body proportions. As shown in the figure above, the two lengths represent the horizontal distance from the tip of the snout to the beginning of the dorsal fin and the horizontal distance from the tip of the snout to the beginning of the caudal fin, respectively. The distance between the tip of the snout-caudal fin start point is twice or more of the distance between the tip of the snout and the starting point of the dorsal fin, and the distance between the tip of the snout and the distance from the beginning of the dorsal fin is less than twice that of the sand pond bass.

Our country is rich in products, there are many things similar, but it is completely different species, just like the Le crab, leaving the Big Vent Lake in Hainan and Lezhen, then it cannot be called Hele crab, the quality is also much worse, let alone different species? The original intention of writing this article is to let everyone see the real four-gill perch, and the ancients sincerely did not deceive me.
