Today, passing through Taipingdian Town in Fancheng District, I saw that there was a "Qingniwan Middle School" on the side of the road. Feeling that the name was very fresh, I inquired about the origin of the name. I asked a few people at the school gate, and everyone said they didn't know, even a retired teacher who came out of the school.

Wondering, the security guard at the door came up to me and said, "There's still something wrong with this name!" With that, he pointed to the inner wall of the gate.
I looked up and saw that there were several signs on the right wall inside the door, indicating the origin of "Qingni Bay".
Originally, in the last year of the Southern Song Dynasty, the Mongols attacked the Song Dynasty from the south and besieged the city of Xiangyang for 6 years. The Song army stubbornly held out, but the city ran out of food and was in urgent need of support. The Song army learned that there was a water named Qingni River in the northwest of the city, which originated from the Jun (Zhou) Fang (Mausoleum) and was connected with the Han River. He built a hundred ships on the banks of the Qingni River, and recruited militia leaders Zhang Shun and Zhang Gui. At the high tide of the Han River, "Erzhang" took three thousand warriors out of the Qingni River by boat, turned the Han River down the river, broke through the siege of the Yuan army, and sent 100 ships of grain into Xiangyang City. Zhang Shun was shot 4 shots and 6 arrows in the battle and died heroically. This is the famous Song and Yuan Xiangyang War.
In order to commemorate this tragic history, later generations named the Song Army Shipbuilding Office on the Banks of the Qingni River "Qingni Bay".
So, how did "Qingniwan" later become Taipingdian?
According to the sign on the wall: In 1360 AD, Liu Futong, the leader of the peasant uprising at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, led the rebel army through Qingniwan and saw that the water and land transportation here was developed, the stages on the streets were high, the drums were noisy, the market was bustling, shoulder to shoulder, and the traffic was bustling. He sighed, "This is the shop of Taiping."
Because of the frequent wars and chaos at that time, people's minds were determined, so people borrowed their words and renamed Qingniwan "TaipingDian".
From the wall signs, I also learned that Qingniwan Middle School was founded in 1986. It was originally called Taipingdian Joint Middle School, and in 1991 it was renamed Taipingdian Town No. 2 Middle School. In 2012, it was named Fancheng District Qingniwan Middle School.
Sigh: This guy is so talented to change the name of the school! It is necessary to associate this ordinary rural middle school, which was founded only 35 years ago, with a major historical event more than 700 years ago. Not only is the name of the school elegant and fresh, easy to hear and easy to remember, but also gives the school and future generations of students a heavy history and culture.
