On October 24, 2021, a new book sharing meeting entitled "Living Colors and Fragrances - The Aesthetics of Life in Chinese" was held at the Guomao Store of Beijing Jiantou Bookstore, focusing on the debut of the new book "The Aesthetics of Life in Chinese", and the on-site activities integrated famous conversations, classical dances, flower arrangements, tea art and incense to form a unique literati collection. The participants not only included big names in the industry and publishing circles, including Gong Pengcheng, visiting professor of Peking University, professor of Shandong University and famous scholar, Li Jingze, vice chairman of the China Writers Association, critic and writer, Yang Ping, vice president of the China Book Critics Association and editor-in-chief of China Book Review, as well as the mysterious guest, Li Yapeng, the founder of the Chinese Cultural Development Foundation of the Academy and a famous actor, as well as Lin Xi, an ink painter and founder of Xuantong Classroom, Ma Zongwu, a senior host of the reading program of the Central People's Radio and a gold medal reading promoter in Beijing. Dr. Ji Xing, senior program host of CCTV, and others attended. "The Aesthetics of Life Chinese" is the latest work of Liu Yuedi, researcher and doctoral supervisor of the Institute of Philosophy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and is produced by the World View Humanistic Brand of Guangxi Normal University Press. The new book sharing meeting was carefully designed and skillfully practiced the aesthetic tradition of the unity of knowledge and action, with the three dances of the Han Dance Beauty Studio - "Great Xia", "Green Luo Skirt" and "Fantasy Chang'an" corresponding to the concepts of heaven, earth and people respectively, and Professor Zheng Qing of the Flower Arrangement Professional Committee of the Chinese Folklore Society provided on-site flower arrangement, floral art and incense, creating a new form of book launch.
The author bought "The Aesthetics of Life Chinese" on the spot and asked the author to sign it. After reading it in one breath on weekends, I followed the author to make a tour of traditional Chinese aesthetics, looking at the past and thinking about the present, including Yingzuihua, and reading "The Course of Beauty" at the beginning, which has a similar feeling. Of course, the style of the two books is different, "The Course of Beauty" is based on historical development as the context, from ancient times to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, "Chinese's Aesthetics of Life" is based on the theme, starting with the "three talents" of heaven, earth and people, and after the weather and season, geography and all things, and the appearance of people, it is divided into drinking and eating taste, long-term leisurely appreciation, secluded and elegant gathering, landscape leisure, literati and elegant fun, self-cultivation, mandate of heaven and other themes, a total of ten lectures. "Chinese's Life Aesthetics" basically involves all angles of Chinese's food, clothing, housing and transportation, discussing the source and connotation of life aesthetics, the author collects and covers a wide range of topics, but also refers to domestic and foreign research results, which is both interesting to read and knowledgeable.
However, the focus of this book selection is basically the cultural field, lacking aesthetic awareness and practical support at a broader social level, and the result is that the popularity of the literature is relatively heavy, and it seems more appropriate if it is named "The Aesthetics of the Life of Chinese Literati". In the author's opinion, the cultural circles, especially the literati group, because of their control and strong position of writing, occupy a dominant position in cultural inheritance, and for the history of Chinese literature, the literati themselves are the protagonists, and folk literature can only accompany the last seat. However, for the aesthetics of life, because there is a limit to "life", it is related to the whole Chinese, and it is related to the aesthetic practice at a broader level. In this way, although the aesthetic practice of the literati group can be used as the lead singer, the aesthetic practice of all sectors of society, especially the people, should also occupy a more important space.
For example. A lecture on drinking and eating can analyze the folk characteristics of snacks in various places, and thus deduce the diversified food culture in different cultural backgrounds in different regions. A long thing to talk about may wish to comb the mud dog, the big Fulai, the tile cat, the woolly monkey, etc., and there should be a lot of research data in this regard. Chapters such as self-cultivation and mandate of heaven can also join folk proverbs and sayings that have been circulating for thousands of years, showing the beauty of Chinese folk wisdom. In addition to the main cultural vein, with the supplement of the folk, the aesthetics of Chinese life should reach a more complete realm.
There are two questions that were not answered in the new book sharing meeting, which are listed below:
First, Mr. Li Zehou's "The Course of Beauty" is being edited and published for the 40th anniversary commemorative edition, I don't know what? Li Zehou's "The Course of Beauty" was first published by the Cultural Relics Publishing House in March 1981, and in the past 40 years, there have been many editions, and the author has collected seven or eight editions of China Social Science, Tianjin Social Science, Sanlian Bookstore, and People's Literature, and looks forward to the 40th anniversary commemorative edition.
The second is the picture of "the aesthetics of life in Chinese", all from the collection of the National Palace Museum in Taipei, I feel that the scope of material selection is somewhat narrow, I don't know what kind of consideration?
"Chinese life aesthetics" is a big theme, this book is an exploration, other angles of life aesthetics works, the more the merrier, Chinese life aesthetics research will be more comprehensive.
