At this point in the story, it seems to be the collision of advanced Western civilization and Taiwan's barbaric civilization. The original book of this TV series is also written this story.
However, the subsequent history that this story was not written was shocking.
Then, in 1872, the Xiamen consul who brokered the agreement resigned from the Consular Post of the United States, ran to work for the Japanese, drew a map and an understanding of the terrain during his stay in Taiwan, and tried his best to encourage japan to attack Taiwan. He became an important promoter and accomplice of the "Peony Society Incident", Japan's swallowing of Ryukyu, and Japan's colonization of taiwan as a whole.

The second episode is important.
It was about what happened to Li Xiande in the medical center. When the doctor wants to save the heroine's brother first, Li Xian has to ask to save the crew first. And with their own professional guarantee, the heroine's brother is fine.
The scene was filmed very well.

Compared with the first and second scenes, his tall image is really obvious. After these scenes, his image can be summarized as: there are universal values of freedom and equality, there is self-persistence, there is principle, and there are dedicated Americans.
From the perspective of artistic expression, the director can indeed add chicken legs. The picture quality is also very touching, and it is not an exaggeration to say that it is a film texture. Every actor is also acting online.
However, knowing the historical facts, I saw that my heart was full of mixed feelings.
In public propaganda, it was said that Li Xian had to help Japan colonize Taiwan because Li Xian had to strongly recommend Taiwan's status to the United States, but the United States had no time to take care of it, so he found Japan, and with his efforts, Japan accepted Taiwan.

The heroine is a child of a combination of Hakka and aborigines, but came to the place where the Han people lived to make a living, her parents died, the house was burned, and when she learned that the foreign guild would close its doors and she had no household registration, she did not want to return to the place where she was born and grew up, that is, Hengchun. Because she was not being ostracized there. She has no attachment and love for Hengchun, her spiritual hometown is missing, and she is eager to escape, so she ran out at a young age.
But she wasn't really accepted by the locals either.
Many people know that she is an outsider and have not really accepted her. Quite a bit of a hit worker who has left his hometown, can't go back to his hometown, has no hukou and no house in a big city, can't take root, and is not recognized for his own taste.
In her situation, I have to say that there are similarities with Li Xiande, and it is not impossible for them to feel sorry for each other and fall in love.
Putting aside history, TV dramas really deserve 8.1 points on Douban, but history is there, so it is not appropriate to do so.
Because once the character is created, you have to serve him with any decisions he makes later. You portray an aggressor's accomplice like a tragic hero, so how do we deal with his encouragement of the Japanese to colonize Taiwan? Do you want me to accept him in order to spread civilization and bring benefits to the people of Taiwan? Your family's welfare is created by the blood of the predecessors?
If you think about it, if Americans were asked to make a film of how Hitler came to power through democratic elections to glorify democracy and Hitler, what would Americans do? Or how kind were the Americans to make a film of the Japanese before the attack on Pearl Harbor, and what would the Americans do? Isn't that the roof all overturned for you? This nature, almost.
Therefore, I don't quite understand what Taiwan Public Television is doing to make this kind of TV series. I have only seen the invaders wash themselves, have never seen the descendants of the invaders, and have also helped the invaders' accomplices to make TV dramas to wash their whites. It's a shame to be Chinese. The higher your artistry, the more pathetic you are, isn't it?
