The Adventures of the Shepherd

The Adventures of the Shepherd

Most of the early literary works of ancient Egypt were related to religion, from the Old Kingdom to the Middle Kingdom, and literature also evolved. The trend of evolution is that there are fewer and fewer serious works of religious nature and more and more light-hearted works of secular nature. Although the adventures of the shepherds are few and far between, they can be regarded as representative works of the general works of the Middle Kingdom.

The story goes: One day, a shepherd was herding sheep in the countryside. Because of the hot weather, he walked to a pond. When he stripped down to the pool to take a bath, he looked up and suddenly saw a beautiful woman standing by the pond. The beauty was already naked and her hair was disheveled. ”

The shepherd reported on this incident and said: You may not believe it, but one day I walked toward the pond... I couldn't imagine that there was already a girl in the pool, she didn't look like a human fireworks eater, and when I saw her hair, it really made my hair stand upright, because its color was so bright. She wanted me to kiss her, but I didn't dare because I was afraid of her.

From this story, it is also shown that the shepherd is afraid of a girl who has come from an unknown source, and although he is impressed by her beauty, he does not dare to approach her. He was afraid of the danger of not being able to get there, afraid of falling into her magic net, afraid of getting lost and committing crimes! Because the Egyptians' view of women is roughly the same as that of other peoples.
