Briefly speaking of history, the burning of the Yuanmingyuan

author:Wen Xi on the way

In 1856, Britain and France launched the Second Opium War against China under the pretext of the "Suppression Of the Luo Incident" and the "Horse God Hunt" respectively. In 1857, the Anglo-French army occupied Guangzhou, and in May 1857, they went north to Tianjin and occupied the Dagu Fort. Deterred by the power of the great powers, the Qing government was forced to sign the Treaty of Tianjin with Russia, the United States, Britain, and France in June. A year later, when China exchanged the text of the Treaty of Tianjin between Britain and France, Britain and France once again went north, and they refused the Qing government's route from Beitang to Beijing and attacked Dagu, but the Qing army stationed in Dagu resolutely counterattacked. In August 1860, after the Anglo-French coalition attacked Taku again, it immediately marched to Tongzhou. In Tongzhou, their negotiations with the Chinese broke down, and on October 5, the Anglo-French coalition began an attack on the city of Beijing under the pretext that the Chinese had detained their men. The Qing army was gradually defeated in battle, and the invaders were even more fearless. On October 6, they broke into the Art Palace of the Old Summer Palace. In the face of countless rare treasures, British and French officers took the lead in looting, and then plundered freely by arsonists. After being robbed, the Yuanmingyuan was completely unrecognizable, and none of the things that could be taken away by the invaders were taken away by the invaders, and those that could not be moved were destroyed by the invaders. In order to cover up their crimes, the invaders burned the Yuanmingyuan twice on the 7th and 9th, and the fire lasted for three days and nights. This magnificent palace and royal garden, which embodies the blood and sweat of the Chinese people for more than 100 years, integrates Chinese and Western architectural art, and gathers ancient and modern artworks, has become a ruin.
