Although the New Year Jifu has become popular in recent years, it is not the original of modern people, and there was a tradition of Jifu as early as the Qing Dynasty more than 200 years ago. At that time, every New Year's Day, the emperor would use the imperial pen to write the word "Fu" to give to the courtiers who had merit in this year, and if he could get the blessing character given by the emperor, it was definitely a glorious thing to honor his ancestors.
Kangxi was known as "the most knowledgeable emperor" and was the first emperor of the Qing Dynasty to bless his ministers. The calligraphy of the qing emperors is superb, and Kangxi is even more so. Nowadays, when mentioning the Kangxi Emperor's fu character, everyone first thinks of the "first blessing in the world" written by him for Empress Xiaozhuang. Empress Xiaozhuang was unwell on her 60th birthday, and the doctor took good care of her for several days and still did not make progress, and the worried Kangxi Emperor personally wrote a "Fu" character to the Imperial Grandmother after fasting, and it was also coincidental that Empress Xiaozhuang's body gradually recovered after getting the Fu character, and she was tough until the end of 75 years old. The character "Fu" written by Kangxi is narrow and narrow, so it is also called "longevity fu". The right half of this Fu character happens to be written in Wang Xizhi's "Orchid Pavilion Collection Sequence" in the word "Shou", so this word "Fu Shou Shuang Quan". In addition, this fu character contains multiple words such as "many children, many talents, many lives, many fields, and many blessings", which is the true "unity of the five blessings", so it is also called "the first blessing under the world".
This "Fu" character poured out all of Kangxi's love for his grandmother, and naturally it was not something that courtiers could get. At that time, the blessing characters that the courtiers could get were written by Kangxi in the early morning of the New Year, of course, not everyone had a share, only about a dozen people could be rewarded every year, and it was said that the first person to receive such an honor was Mr. Jin Yong's ancestor, Hanlin Editor Cha Shenxing.
Cha Shenxing was five years old and could write poetry at the age of ten, but such a child prodigy repeatedly failed on the road of scientific examinations, and did not pass the examination until the age of 43. Probably the people with thick accumulation of thin hair have great blessings waiting in front, 9 years later, the Kangxi Emperor toured the east, and Zha Shenxing was introduced by everyone to get the opportunity to be personally inspected by the Kangxi Emperor and was appreciated by this, and from then on he became a red person around the emperor. Not only could he enter and exit the South Study, but he would also accompany the emperor to the West Garden to watch the fireworks during the Lantern Festival, and Kangxi would also reward him with glass glasses and other items that were still precious at that time. One year, Kangxi was about to go to the summer resort, and Zha Shenxing, who was accompanied by the order, suddenly had abdominal pain, and Kangxi rewarded him with Western medicine and ordered someone to explain the pharmacology, and rewarded him with two sets of silk and ge clothes. These are the holy favors that ordinary people dare not imagine, and the character "Fu" written by the Kangxi Emperor himself was also given during this time.
Kangxi set a precedent for rewarding blessings, and future generations naturally could not be left behind, especially the Qianlong Emperor, who loved to be in the limelight. Kangxi was very cautious whenever he sent out a copy of the ink treasure, and Qianlong was a bit arbitrary. This emperor, who was very good at brushing up on his sense of existence, held the "Book of Blessings", that is, the ceremony of writing blessing characters every year.
Qianlong would use the imperial pen engraved with the words "Blessing Cangsheng" to write the blessing characters to the imperial study to give to the prince, the king of the county, the belle, the minister of the South Study, and others, and later he would write the word "Shou", and even the auspicious words such as "one year Kangtai" and "Suitable for entering the New Year" would also be written. At that time, there was a man named Wang Jihua who had been a Shangshu for more than thirty years, and in his later years, he actually received twenty-four blessing words from the emperor. He carefully framed these blessing characters and took them to a house for worship, and named the house "Twenty-Four Blessing Halls". It's really grand.
In addition to rewarding the courtiers of the clan, Qianlong would also paste his own blessing characters all over the palace. From the seventeenth year of Qianlong onwards, every year on the first day of December, he would write the fu character at the Xiangxiang Temple, and then the chief eunuch posted his fu character in various palaces, which showed that the New Year's posting of the fu character was extremely cautious at that time. The Qianlong Dynasty also formed the rule that "the internal and external ministers, except for the southern study room, the upper study room and the internal affairs office where the inner court is enshrined, are not allowed to give blessing characters to non-officials and erpin, and they are not allowed to give shou characters until they are fifty years old."
In the matter of blessing, not only the Qianlong Emperor was very high-profile, but even the Daoguang Emperor, who acted as a transparent person, was not willing to be lonely. He considered the governor of Caoyun, Pan Xi'en, to rule the river as his own vassal, so he was rewarded with a blessing for five consecutive years. Pan Xi'en received five emperors' handwritten blessings in succession, and naturally suffered a wave of envy and hatred, so some people said to the emperor, "The five blessings are the emperor's exclusive blessings, how can Pan Xi'en's courtier He De be able to do it?" He also asked the emperor to take back his life. ”
The minister thought that Daoguang had always been obedient and had no courage, and he said that he would definitely obey. Daoguang, who had always been decent, was also willful, and he said, "Since the five blessing words are not appropriate, then give him another blessing word." So Pan Xi'en, who had long since stopped expecting the fu word, actually got another one, and excitedly, he quickly arranged the incense case and took the fu word with both hands, and carefully framed the fu word and hung it above the lobby for three prayers and nine knocks.
