"Reporters walking in Jianghuai" melons became "golden knots"

In early autumn, in the Yingwei medicinal material planting base in Shuzhuang Village, Shuzhuang Town, Jieshou City, melons were hung with rattans, and the growth was gratifying. Snow-white melon blossoms are blooming, and the buds emit a faint fragrance.

"This year's melon is growing well and can be sold for a good price." Wang Yingwei, the head of the base, told reporters.

In 2016, with the help of the local government, Wang Yingwei founded the Yingwei medicinal material planting base and began to circulate land to plant melons.

"When there was no technology in the beginning, I learned online. After mastering the basic planting techniques, I asked the big growers for advice. Wang Yingwei said.

With the learned technology and accumulated experience, Wang Yingwei planted melons with great success, earning more than 4,000 yuan per mu in the first year.

"In the first year of planting, an acre of land produced 175 kilograms of melon seeds, when 0.5 kilograms of raw melon seeds sold to 12.5 yuan, the sales were in short supply, and the investment cost was earned back that year, and the melon was really a 'golden lump'." Wang Yingwei told reporters.

Wang Yingwei not only mastered the planting technology of melon and expanded the scale of planting, but also improved the planting income by planting yellow essence and kiwi fruit.

"The planting of yellow essence and kiwi fruit in the melon not only realizes the combination of high and low, but also can be used as an organic fertilizer for yellow essence after the discarded vines, leaves and stems of the melon are decayed, keeping the soil moist and fertile." Through planting, both the planting labor force is reduced, and more benefits can be obtained. According to Wang Yingwei, the current output of yellow fine fresh goods is more than 1,000 kilograms per mu, and the average income per mu is more than 10,000 yuan.

With the gradual opening of the market, Wang Yingwei began to adopt the order model, and the melon wilt skin and its roots and leaves in the planting base were sold to the Bozhou Chinese herbal medicine market.

Wang Yingwei took the initiative to impart planting experience and led the villagers to develop the cultivation of Chinese medicinal materials. At present, 3 families have followed him to plant 200 acres of melons, and the planting base has absorbed 7 weak laborers to weed, spray, and pick fruits in the melon fields, providing them with opportunities to increase their income.
