Episode 1 of "Psychometrician 3" becomes 60 minutes, reducing nonsense, strengthening action scenes, and half more climactic scenes

The Japanese tv anime PSYCHO-PASS Psychometrician 3, which began airing in October 2019, is the third season of the original TV anime PSYCHO-PASS Psychometrician. The series composition of Season 3 is still handled by Oki Fontaine, who worked on Season 1 and Season 2. Together with Makoto Fukami and Ryo Yoshigami, he formed the script lineup of the anime. In this article, we interviewed three scriptors about the protagonist setting of the anime, the 60-minute broadcast format of each episode, and the current situation of the Sibylla system.

Think of it this way. If you want to harm others to stabilize your mental hue, then you don't know what you're doing, which is the best. Here is the description of the burning. The essence of the "initial incident" that happened to the newcomers to monitor Guan Zhuo and Jiong was precisely this situation. This incident is based on the subprime mortgage crisis in the United States in the 2000s. People are bound by all kinds of ingenious rules, and in the absence of anyone's intention to sin, injustice is produced, and victims are presented. Then, the whistleblower who discovered this trap became a mournful victim...

The result of each person's vigorous pursuit of self-interest is that everyone has no interest in sin and gives birth to a huge "crime". Then, some people have fun, it's like playing a game. It's almost like challenging the Sibylla system...

Can Zhuo Hejiong, as well as members of the Criminal Division of the Public Security Bureau, solve the complex and inexplicable equation of hidden evil and malice in the face of future events?

■ The current status of the Sibila system

- This season of the anime is played in the form of 1 episode of 60 minutes.

Okikata: From the beginning, the 60-minute format of each episode has been decided. The producers demanded the feel of an American tv series. Initially, the script structure I made was half a year long, 1 episode of 30 minutes. But while I was working, the producer asked if he could make it feel like a TV series called "24 Hours" or "CSI" and make it look like a 60-minute episode. He also said that "I want to take the form of 1 episode of 60 minutes, and I want to consider overseas markets". Then, I changed the feeling of "1 episode of 30 minutes to 2 episodes of 60 minutes" as a special program, and asked two people to deal with the script. I was a little upset at first, but after watching the finished video, it felt good.

—— 1 episode becomes 60 minutes, what kind of changes will there be in terms of creative script?

Okikata: Each episode of the anime must be simple and easy to understand to show the audience, a review of the previous situation, or a re-reminder of known important information, etc. If 2 episodes are made into 1 episode, then it can reduce the trouble in these aspects. In contrast, some new information can be added, so the amount of information density in each episode will increase. Also, each episode has become longer, but it must make the audience not tired of watching. Then the climactic scenes will also be half more than usual, and the action scenes will also become more.

Mr. Yoshigami was in charge of the script for the theatrical version of Sinners of the System Case.1: Crime and Punishment, and this is the first time you've been in charge of the script for the Psychometrician TV anime series.

Yoshigami: I'm in charge of the script for the mid-season of the anime. However, in the stage of plot construction, everyone gradually added a lot of ideas and elements, so the amount of text in the script became very large.

Okikata: This is Mr. Yoshigami's habit. No matter what Mr. Yoshigami writes, it will be a very large amount of content.

Fukami: Mr. Yoshigami's script, if you want to say, is simply a novel.

Okikata: I understand! This was also the case when I first started writing animation scripts.

Yoshigami: Mr. Okikata helped to correct the script, including some very detailed areas, and I got a lot of exercise.

The Sibila system in the Psychometrician series, and the social situation around the system, has changed little by little. What is the expected situation and stage of this season of the anime?

Okikata: When I was working on the series composition for Season 2, I communicated with the supervisor and producers of Tsutomu Tsukitani, and the feeling was that it was something that could not be done in the second season, so I would wait until the third season. That's when we've decided on the direction — to get people of all nationalities on the scene. The setting is "Sibylla System Management Japan" is closed to the outside world, and (in the theatrical version) Japan has exported the Sibylla system to the outside world, so it is possible to counter-current. Although this is not explicit, as the world's declining birthrate and aging have increased, the labor force has become a problem. For this reason, the number of naturalized people coming to Japan will increase – that's what we envisioned.

Deep View: If the Psychometrician series does not portray the Sibylla system as negative, the balance will be unbalanced in terms of storyline. But I also want to describe the advantages of the Sibylla system.

Okikata: It is a "contradiction" why humans seek the Sibylla system. On the one hand, it is the desire to retain one's own free will and live to the fullest. On the other hand, it is hoped that someone else will take care of all the troubles. I think that's the human side as well. However, if you leave the trouble to others, your own free will will inevitably be deprived. We want to describe this "contradiction."

■ New combination of surveillance officers

——The protagonists of this season, Shen Daozhuo and Jiong Mikhail Ignatov, how did these two characters come about?

Okikata: Initially, the supervisor and producer of Tsutomu Tsurugi said that "there would be a big change of roles", and it also asked me to consider "the two of the surveillance officers to partner". From the very beginning, it has been decided that "the surveillance officer partner", "one of them is a naturalized person, the two are small", "there is a height difference". Then, taking into account the combination of being in charge of psychology and being responsible for combat, I proposed the role of psychoanalyst and military experiencer.

Fukami: Initially, I was involved in a discussion script meeting, and Mr. Okikata suddenly said, "I want to see Mr. Fukami's writing of Shinsuke and Jiong Mikhail Ignatov, please write a first episode and come out to see" (laughs). Burning, at first glance very confused and sleepy look, but the head is very smart. Although he is always smirking, he can immediately see through the truth and rush to the truth. Initially his role bothered me a lot.

Okikata: If you don't get it right, he will turn into an annoying guy.

Fukami: Initially, Mr. Okikata also said, "It doesn't matter if he looks like an annoying guy."

Okikata: Because he will unconsciously dominate the dialogue and lead in a direction that is beneficial to himself.

Yoshigami: He's kind of clever. In this sense, he is probably the most like a criminal policeman.

Oki Fang: Have a good relationship with the criminal, let the other party talk endlessly, and then arrest the other party. He was such a good cop.

----------------- What impression do you have about her?

Okikata: I think Frost Moon has received a lot of favors from the people around her. The Sibylla system regarded her as the "most obedient guy" and valued her very much. And she herself wanted to get ahead. She is also a person who knows the true face of the Sibylla system, and it feels like a temple is too small to accommodate the Big Buddha. So she became section chief. Chief of the Criminal Division.

Fukami: It feels like Frost Moon wants to be even greater and tougher to bring potential offenders to justice.

Okikata: In order to gain more affirmation from the Sibylla system, she would never let her mental hue be cloudy. Of course, if this continues, he will be a section chief for the rest of his life.

Fukami: In that case, Kazukazu would trick her around.

Chong Fang: The sparkle of burning and sparkling is too dazzling in the eyes of frost moon. Because frost moon will look away from them while drinking and rebuking them.

Fukami: Personally, I am more curious about the relationship between Frost Moon and her fierce rival, Freidorika, the flower city of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I doubt very much that sooner or later they will become a good pair of CPs (laughs). Didn't Frost Moon also say that Frederica was a "very nasty guy"? This is a foreshadowing.

Yoshigami: That's right!

Okikata: Don't fall for Mr. Fukami's plan! But Frederica's presence is still very important. It is because of her presence that Nobumoto Ginoza and cunning can also take action.

--Is there anything you want to describe about in the events described in Episode 1, Episode 2?

Okikata: This time it doesn't involve science fiction, or I want to make a theme that avoids science fiction. I hope that through this work, we can objectively observe our own lives. Regarding episode 1 and episode 2, I read the English literature on the subprime mortgage crisis while flipping through the dictionary, which really killed me. With the help of Mr. Fukami, I incorporated the subprime mortgage crisis into a science fiction story.

Fukami: The subprime loan explanation that appears in Episode 2 is almost always handled by Mr. Okikata. It's so short and so interesting to show what's happening in the real world. Mr. Okikata is truly admirable.

Okikata: Economic events will involve many people, but each individual does not have a grasp of the overall situation. I think that's what runs through Psychometrician as a whole. Episode 3 is followed by politics, followed by another event. I hope that audience friends can use this as a "mirror of reality" to enjoy watching the film.

Yoshigami: After thinking about it, the production team finally came to the conclusion that it is an animation that can touch everyone's heart. I'm also looking forward to being able to watch the finished video.
