Old Cao Yang, there is a new look! The first workers' village in New China celebrates its 70th birthday

Moving trucks in and out, smiling residents carrying large bags and small bags, the transformation of the old houses in Caoyang Village, which lasted for nearly 2 years, has been completed, and residents have moved back into a new livable community. At the same time, today, Caoyang Village, the first new village of workers in New China, ushered in its 70th birthday.

In 1951, construction began in Caoyang Village; in 1952, 48 brick and wood two-story buildings that could accommodate 1,002 households were completed, welcoming the first batch of residents - model workers and advanced workers in factories in western Shanghai. Later, two villages and three villages were built one after another, until 1977, when Caoyang Jiu Village was formed, forming the overall architectural style of "white walls and red roof" in Caoyang New Village, and the reputation of workers' new villages became more and more famous.

From the construction of a new workers' village 70 years ago to the "one household, one plan" to promote the transformation of old housing, time has passed, and the people-centered development concept has been consistent.

Add 7 or 8 square meters to give people more possibilities

In the square of Caoyang Village, the reporter met Gao Linlin, a 73-year-old old resident. This time, she is busy cleaning her new home and preparing to officially move back next month. In 1952, at the age of 4, she moved with her parents into Caoyang Village, where she spent nearly 70 years studying, getting married, and having children.

"It was originally a staircase, now it's a kitchen and bathroom," Gao Linlin took reporters to visit his new home. Her home has about 8 square meters of space, and her life is much more comfortable. She recalled that when the village of Caoyang was first built, there was no gas, and in the kitchen shared on each floor, three families had two large stoves, everyone made a fire to cook every day, and smoke rose from the chimney on the roof. After the gas was passed, the chimney, although it had no actual function, became a symbol unique to the workers' new village.

Over the years, there have been many discussions about how to transform Caoyang Village, such as changing 3 households per floor to two households, and building new buildings in situ after the demolition of old houses... In the end, a complete set of renovation plans was introduced, which clearly strengthened the house without changing the overall appearance and shape of the house, and implemented internal renewal at the same time.

"The biggest change brought about by this renovation plan is that the public kitchen and bathroom in the original corridor are cleverly moved into the suite, which is equivalent to adding 7 or 8 square meters to each household." Shi Huan, deputy director of the Office for the Renovation of Old Houses in Caoyang New Village, feels that this seems to only increase these areas, but gives people more possibilities.

To this end, the transformation of the old houses in Caoyang Village implements "one household and one drawing", and the designer team provides personalized and refined design solutions for each household according to the actual situation and different needs of nearly 1500 residents' rooms. "Some residents have fewer people and need a whole big house; some residents have a large family and need to separate one more room." Shi Huan said, "We implement the individual needs of residents on each drawing, and the follow-up links are constructed and executed according to the drawings." ”

The street adopts the two-wheel drive of "wall chart operation + sinking working group", which is divided into pieces, implements responsibilities, and allows every party member to walk in the front line of complete sets of transformation, through visits, symposiums, emotional cards and other methods, to understand the concerns and difficulties of each household, find problems and solve problems, and promote the project process.

Numerous thoughtful designs light up a new life

Nowadays, residents will find many thoughtful designs and changes after moving back.

Resident Zhang Xuerong also moved in last week with a bag. "I moved in with my parents in 1952 and have a lot of affection for this place. After this renovation, I looked at the new home, and I really had everything. Zhang Xuerong said that now, the steep and narrow wooden stairs in the past have been replaced by flat cement stairs, and it is more convenient for the elderly to enter and exit.

The renovation of Caoyang Village is an attempt to create a more pleasant and livable garden community. For example, the renovation takes the community landscape as the carrier to restore the memory of the new village, and sets up a cool square and a rest gallery pavilion. The artificial intelligence light pole on the west side of each building is tall, simple, looks like a decoration, but in fact, it integrates more than a dozen high-tech practical functions such as 360-degree monitoring, public broadcasting, intelligent dimming, wireless WIFI, 5G signal, drone apron (convenient for real-time monitoring of the protection of historical buildings), etc., making the life of residents in the community more convenient and safe.

Between the residences, the builders improve the greening around the building, comb the lower vegetation varieties, retain relatively complete trees, replace the greenery with the community wall for soft isolation, and the residents of the community can directly enter the lanxi youth park next to it with the access control card; the drying rack combined with the drying and landscape functions is designed, and the landscape space is opened up through reasonable layout.

The traffic planning of the community is more reasonable, the activity space and the driving space are separated to achieve the separation of people and vehicles, and the newly added parking spaces and new energy vehicle charging piles further meet the needs of residents. At the same time, all the weak current and strong electric overhead lines in the community enter the ground, restoring and inheriting the historical essence and cultural heritage of Caoyang Village to the greatest extent.

What is circled is life, but also the "sense of belonging" that touches the bottom of the heart

Over the past 70 years, Caoyang Village has become a name that carries countless memories and glory.

Here is the vivid practice of people's city construction, the "neighborhood unit" planning theory landed here for the first time, the city's first workers' new village commercial outlets, indoor vegetable farms, schools, health clinics. It is the gathering place for the achievements of the creation of mass spiritual civilization, and a large number of advanced models at the national and municipal levels have emerged. It is also an innovative exploration place for grass-roots management services, and the city's first community party member service center has been established, taking the lead in exploring the pilot regionalization of party building, garbage classification and other reform and ice-breaking work.

This year, the streets of Caoyang New Village have been included in the first batch of urban one-quarter hour convenience life circle pilots in the country, and the urban streetscapes such as Huanbang, Caoyang Park, Lanxi Youth Park, and Baixi Park in front of a village's doorstep have all been reshaped.

This year, Putuo District will upgrade the green landscape of Huaxi Road, Tangpu Road and Fengqiao Road around Caoyang Village, and build a new pocket park - Tangpu Garden. Although Tangpu Garden is not large, it makes good use of huanbang's environmental resources, and fully integrates the "sidewalk, green belt, and waterfront" to form an open and shared green space.

In addition, after nearly a year of planning and construction, the "Baixi Park" located on the east side of the Fengqiao Road subway station was completed, becoming the first high-line art park in Shanghai. The newly opened Baixi Park, converted from an abandoned railway, is dotted with high-line walkways and a large installation art wall, and has just opened to become an "Internet celebrity".

The design of the entire Baixi Park is quite creative, using a high carport and exploring the underground space, divided into K1, K2, K3 floors, each with its own uses. Liu Yuyang, the main creative designer, introduced: "K1 is a semi-underground exhibition hall that carries art, K2 is the most open exhibition hall for public activities, and the highest K3 floor can let people better look forward to community construction." ”

15 minutes, the circle is life, but also the "sense of belonging" that touches the bottom of the heart. More and more residents choose Caoyang New Village to work, start a business and live.

Caoyang Xincun Street said that it will always run the important concept of "the whole process of people's democracy" throughout the whole process of urban development and community governance, starting from the small things and piles of affairs in the daily life of the people, and constantly extending the keen "tentacles" rooted in the grassroots, promoting the fine governance of the city, and making the neighborhood more beautiful, more charming, and more warm.

Reporter's Note:

Outside the walls of Caoyang Village, there are more than a dozen large photographs of community residents smiling. This is a participatory video art practice "Cao Yang's Smile", in which passing residents may see their familiar faces and recall the moments of communication with them. In these smiles, the reporter felt happiness and warmth.

The vitality of the city is stimulated by the people, and the quality of the city will eventually be judged by the people. A "people's city" must be a city that people love. This is true of cities, and it is true of communities.

70 years ago, as the first residential area in New China to be built for the working class, Caoyang Village began construction in Putuo, Shanghai. In the following years, more than a thousand model workers, advanced workers, and March 8th Red Flag bearers moved into the new village with gongs and drums and opened a happy new life. This scene has become an important witness to the working class turning itself into the master under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, and also fully embodies the party's original intention and mission.

Nowadays, the transformation of old houses in Caoyang Village is also focusing on solving the problems of "old, small, old, and far" that the masses are most looking forward to and most urgently, focusing on meeting the diversified, quality, and personalized needs of the masses, and improving the quality and efficiency of supply. In the end, adhering to the principle of "everything from the needs of people", the old community was rejuvenated.
