The railway station clothing business district, in Zhengzhou, is a "legendary" existence.

From Datong Road in the north, to Longhai Road in the south and Yima Road in the west, with a radius of 1.5 square kilometers, it is densely packed with 11 garment markets such as Yinji Plaza, World Trade Mall, Jinrong Trade City, Daguan International Trade Center, etc., where nearly 30,000 merchants sell up to 1 billion pieces of clothing throughout the country every year.

The massive supply of goods has attracted at least 150 logistics companies to compete for food.

As a trade city, Zhengzhou has more than 160 professional markets of various types at its peak.

Among them, the railway station clothing business district is an enviable, god-like existence.

This is one of the earliest commercial districts in Zhengzhou, and it is also the place where many tens of millions or even billionaires were born.

Nowadays, the clothing merchants scattered in Zhengzhou and even the streets and shopping malls in Henan have chatted deeply, and a large part of them have worked here, opened shops, and had the experience of wholesale clothing at three or four o'clock in the morning.

Whether it was in the past or now, the railway station garment business circle is the business card of Zhengzhou garment industry. It was once on a par with Guangzhou Baima, Hangzhou Four Seasons Green, Beijing Dahongmen and other markets, and became the main domestic clothing circulation market. Although Zhengzhou is not the main garment origin, because of its strategic position as a "circulation hub", it is also one of the "barometers" of the national garment market.

30,000 wholesalers, selling up to 1 billion pieces of clothing every year

Merchants are the foundation of the market.

According to the data provided by a number of market managers in the railway station business district, there are 11 garment markets in the business district, with a commercial volume of 1 million square meters, accommodating nearly 30,000 merchants. Among them, Yinji Plaza, with 3000+ merchants; Daguan International Trade, merchants 800+; Mingmen Tianlong Garment City, merchants 2000+......

When the Henan Business Daily reporter visited, the manager of one of the clothing markets said that there were less than 1,000 merchants in the market, but the daily shipment volume reached 500,000 packs.

According to a number of market parties, the average daily turnover of 330 million yuan in 11 garment markets is as high as 1 billion pieces of clothing sold across the country every year.

Among them, wholesale-based clothing manufacturers account for more than 50% of the total number of merchants; while the general agents and distributors of various clothing brands account for about 30% of the total number of merchants; and about 8% of the merchants are directly operated by manufacturers.

Their business covers the whole province of Henan, as well as the surrounding provinces of Shanxi, Shandong, Hebei, Anhui, Hubei, Hunan and other provinces, and the goods are sold as far as Xinjiang, Tibet, Inner Mongolia and other regions.

The huge volume of goods and transactions has spawned a lot of clothing logistics, and has also attracted other logistics companies to settle in.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Zhao Fusheng was still doing clothing wholesale in Yinji. With the increase of cargo volume, the logistics sector is indispensable. In 2009, the layout of logistics began. Today, he manages the Silver-based Silver Express Logistics and cooperates with more than 30 logistics companies that come to Silver-Based Plaza to pull goods.

Daguan International Trade has established a logistics department since 2017, and its head Deng Hong said that there are currently 43 logistics companies in the market.

The supply of goods is surging and attracts at least 150 logistics companies to grab food

Mu Yang has been doing logistics in the railway station business district for nearly 30 years. In 1992, her daughter was just 3 years old. Zhengzhou Railway Station Dunmu Road clothing wholesale is in full swing. She and her husband do not understand clothing, seeing that clothing dealers often buy goods from Guangzhou and Hangzhou, but there is a shortage of people in Zhengzhou to do distribution, so they started the freight department, and the main one is to do the landing. At that time, there were only two or three logistics companies operating in the garment business district of the railway station.

Two years later, in 1994, the first phase of Yinji Trade City began to attract investment. In 2001, the first phase of the World Trade Center opened for children's clothing, and in 2002, Jinrong Trade City opened.

After 2005, the garment business district of the railway station ushered in intensive expansion. Around May 1, the 3rd phase of the World Trade Mall was opened; Hengtai Apparel Market and Jincheng Apparel Plaza were opened at the same time; at the end of the year, tianlong Garment City, which was rebuilt from the old site of Dunmu Road Garment City, opened; in 2006, the 4th Phase M area of the WTO was operated.

The increase in markets and merchants has brought about a fission in and out of goods. This was followed by an influx of logistics companies, large and small.

Dafa Logistics, Hongshun Logistics, Jiyulong Logistics, Cichenda Logistics, Fangyuan Logistics, Amway Logistics, etc. have settled in.

Juan Sheng, the head of a logistics company stationed in the garment business circle of the railway station in 2003, said that as of October 2021, there are about 30 logistics companies serving the 11 garment markets if registered from the industry and commerce department; if calculated from the actual business transactions, there are at least 150 logistics companies.

Inner ring logistics is highly profitable, but outer ring logistics cannot do it in inner ring

With the expansion of the market and merchants, the logistics enterprises in the past few years have also had the glory of "lying and earning".

However, in recent years, with the competition of peers to join, with the rise in oil prices and the increase in labor costs, the profits of logistics companies have become thinner and thinner.

Yang Li, who runs the Zhengzhou-Hebei special line, has a deep understanding. Her company can send two cars a day in Hebei. In 2011, running back and forth like this, you can earn six or seven thousand yuan in the peak season. Today, after deducting the various costs of the car, there are only two or three thousand yuan left. In this amount of profit, if it is evenly distributed to the expenditure in the off-season of 6, 7 and 8 months of each year, it is a loss.

"To be honest, since the epidemic last year, our company has not made money." Yang Li said that in previous years, the off-season of the clothing business district began in June, and may this year arrived early. As soon as the volume of goods is small, the revenue of logistics companies has been directly affected.

Juan Sheng, who has been dealing with garment merchants for 18 years, said that the profits of logistics enterprises in the railway station business circle are actually slightly higher than those of the logistics enterprises in the outer ring such as Xinzheng and Xinmi, but if you want to pull the goods of the railway station business circle, you need to do a lot of trivial work.

How difficult is it for logistics companies in the railway station garment business district to survive?

For example, within 1000 kilometers of the clothing logistics line must be in the evening, up to 10 hours to reach the destination, and also to carry out door-to-door services, can not affect the downstream customers wholesale or retail again, the characteristics of the railway station clothing business circle determines, the logistics enterprises here, can only charge the cost of logistics, but also to provide faster than express delivery service.

For example, there are many markets, goods, forklifts, and there are five or six primary schools and middle schools within a radius of 3 kilometers, and there are many unsafe hidden dangers.

For example, the buildings in the market here are getting higher and higher, more and more shops, but the venues used by logistics companies are getting smaller and smaller, 11 markets, at present, only The Great View International Trade and Happy Lake Children's Clothing Market have a special ground logistics area for logistics vehicles to park, and most of the other markets can only reserve parking positions of varying sizes in the underground parking lot for logistics companies, due to the height of the underground parking lot, some vehicles can not enter at all, and there are more private cars entering the mall. These objectively existing actual situations lead to the existing logistics facilities far from meeting the needs of logistics enterprises.

For another example, don't look at this 1.5 square kilometers of place, but it belongs to 2 districts (Guancheng District, Erqi District), 3 offices (Nanguan Street Office, Yima Road Office, West Street Office), 2 traffic police teams (traffic police three brigades, traffic police four brigades), plus 1 railway station management committee, multi-head management of a number of different regulations, resulting in logistics companies are often at a loss.

High standards and strict requirements have led many logistics companies in the outer ring to see that this is a piece of "fat meat", but they can only sigh with excitement.
