The "Forbidden Gate Change" directly led to the First Choshu Conquest, and under the mediation of satsuma domain, Choshu committed crimes to the shogunate, and the popular party seized power, and Takasugi Jinsaku was forced to flee. After hiding in Tibet for a while, he had to return to Choshu because he had spent all his money again.

After returning to Choshu, Takasugi First found the leader of the Strange Soldiers, Yamagata Aritomo, and wanted him to organize the Strange Soldiers uprising. However, Yamagata Yutomo felt that there were tens of thousands of clan army inside and hundreds of thousands of shogunate troops outside, and there was no hope for the uprising, so he refused.

Yamagata Aritomo, don't look at him now under the suppression of the secularists, in the future he has a very great influence on Japan, he is the founder of Japan's modern army, twice served as prime minister, during his tenure advocated the "martial spirit". He was the commander of the First Army in the Sino-Japanese War and the first Commander of the Japanese Army to lead his army across the Yalu River; when the Eight-Power Alliance invaded China, he once again became prime minister and actively sent troops to invade China. He is known as the "ancestor of the warlord kingdom since the Meiji Restoration" and the founder of later Japanese militarism!

Speaking of Takasugi Shinsaku, he felt desperate when he was rejected by the strange army he had formed under his leadership, so he wrote an epitaph for himself and prepared to commit suicide by cutting his abdomen at Gongshan Temple in Maguan.

On January 13, 1865, dozens of members of the Strange Army heard that Takasugi Shinsaku was going to cut his belly and jade, so they ran to him to send him off. But when he saw that so many brothers had come, he turned his head and thought, instead of dying like this, it is better to fight with the popular party! Their first target was the Shinji Club of the Choshu Domain in Maguan, and ito Hirobumi, who was the head of this club, was an old comrade-in-arms of Jinsaku, so when he saw Takasugi Jinsaku coming, Ito Hirobumi thought that he had come to visit the door, and did not do any defense. As a result, after the gang entered the clubhouse, they began to look for guns and bullets, and Ito Hirobumi was stunned, these people are going to rebel! But the people were already standing in front of them with full armor, and Takasugi Shinsaku stepped forward and smiled at Itō Hirobumi and said, "Brother, let the brother go or do you want to fight with the brother?" Before Ito could react, he subconsciously gave in, and then Takasugi Shinsaku walked out of the clubhouse with a big stride.

Itō Hirobumi slowed down, looked at the gang of people with long guns and short guns walking out, and slapped his head: Oops! This is digging a pit for me! So he shouted at Takasugi Shinsaku, who had not yet walked out of the gate: Brother! You wait for me! Then he beckoned his troops to rebel with them.

Yamagata Aritomo, who heard the news, also scolded Takasugi Forsaku for not fighting righteousness: You pulled my people over, isn't this pulling me into the water? So he also beckoned his own surprise troops to join the rebellion.

As a result, what was supposed to be a memorial service at Gongshan Temple became the famous "Gongshan Temple Uprising".

It is said that Takasugi Jinsaku's popularity in Choshu Domain is still very strong, as soon as his troops were pulled up, many citizens and peasants immediately came to join in, and those rich merchants also donated money and materials to support the rebel troops, and soon the number of rebels reached 3,000.

Led by Takasugi Shinsaku, the rebels fought all the way to Hagi castle, the center of the Choshu domain government, which was also the stronghold of the Popular Theory Party, with thousands of regular troops stationed there. On the other hand, on the side of the rebel army, in addition to a few hundred people such as the Odd Soldiers, who are considered regular troops, the remaining citizens, merchants, and peasants can be said to be a bunch of rabble-rousers, and the odds of victory are extremely low. Takasugi Jinsaku let those citizens fight the clan government army as the vanguard first, and seeing that the other side's army was even a variety of weapons, the clan government army naturally became a light enemy. However, in the middle of the night, Takasugi Shinsaku led the elite troops to arrive, and there was a wave of sneak attacks at night, which suddenly made the clan army bomb the camp, and the rebels turned defeat into victory.

After defeating the PopularIty, the Shogi faction regained power, and although the uprising was led by Takasugi Shinsaku, he had no interest in power, voluntarily withdrew from the center of power, and then prepared to go abroad to stay abroad after the government funded a thousand taels.

However, after arriving in Nagasaki, he met Gulaba, a foreign merchant who helped him coordinate his stay in the west, and he suggested that Jinzuo operate to open Maguan as a treaty port. However, at this time, the ruling Yi faction and such things as trade were certainly not supported, so Takasugi Jinsaku was threatened again and had to give up staying in the ocean and flee.
