This crocodile often appears on the surface of the sea to lift boats to harm people, and often disguises herself as a beautiful woman to kill county officials.
In the autumn of the twenty-third year of Shaoxing in the Song Dynasty, Zhu Xi had just arrived in Tong'an to serve as the lord of Bo, and he had already heard of the evil deeds of this crocodile spirit, so he was always careful. One night, Zhu Xi was correcting official documents, when suddenly various white-clad girls sneaked in, he looked up sharply, found that the comers were not good, and hurriedly threw the cinnabar pen in his hand at her, and the girl fled to the sea with a cry, and soon died. After his death, his skeleton became a small island, which is now Crocodile Island. Because the cinnabar pen in Zhu Xi's hand was the embodiment of the "Wenchang Emperor", the small insect that grew after the rotting of the crocodile essence was called Wenchang Fish.
