Liu Heping: Xi Jinping's speech provides new ideas for resolving cross-strait issues

Straight News: What observations and reflections do you have on the important speech delivered by General Secretary Xi Jinping at the conference commemorating the 110th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution?

Special Commentator Liu Heping: After carefully reading General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech at the conference commemorating the 110th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution, I think that the front of this speech is nearly two-thirds of the length, which on the surface seems to be reviewing history, but in fact it is repeatedly emphasizing three important views or conclusions. These three conclusions not only have inherent logic, but also are progressive and serve the current political reality on both sides of the strait.

The first conclusion is that although the Xinhai Revolution, led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, overthrew the feudal imperial system, especially the Manchu Qing rule, opened the prelude to China's modern national democratic revolution in the full sense, and greatly promoted the ideological emancipation of the Chinese nation, historical laws and historical practice have proved that this road does not conform to China's national conditions and is ultimately impossible.

The second conclusion is that only Marxism-Leninism, only the socialist road under the leadership of the Communist Party can save China, and at the same time, the Chinese Communist Party is the staunchest supporter, the most loyal collaborator and the most loyal successor of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary cause. This conclusion underscores history's choice of the Chinese Communist Party and the inevitability of the CCP's rule.

The third conclusion is that Dr. Sun Yat-sen's last wish was not only to make China rich and strong and achieve national rejuvenation, but also to achieve China's peaceful reunification. Moreover, these two goals can only be achieved by the Communist Party of China, the former goal has been basically achieved, and the latter goal will certainly be achieved in the end. That is to say, this conclusion ultimately emphasizes the importance and legitimacy of resolving the Taiwan issue and realizing the peaceful reunification of the two sides of the strait.

It is worth noting that since the emergence of the cross-strait issue in 1949, the highest level of the CPC has repeatedly emphasized these three views and conclusions that have been written into textbooks in important speeches on the Taiwan issue, including the commemoration of the birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen and the commemoration of the Xinhai Revolution. The reason for this is that it still has practical guiding significance for solving the problems facing China at present, especially cross-strait political issues.

Liu Heping: Xi Jinping's speech provides new ideas for resolving cross-strait issues

Straight News: In your opinion, what new ideas does General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech provide for solving the current practical and thorny problems facing the two sides of the strait?

Special Commentator Liu Heping: I believe that all those who pay attention to the situation in the Taiwan Strait, especially the United States and Taiwan, will put their ears up to listen to General Secretary Xi Jinping's speech, not only because every time the "Tenth Day" commemorates the Xinhai Revolution and the birthday of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the mainland will announce some major policies on Taiwan with strategic guiding significance through such an important occasion, and more importantly, in recent years, due to various reasons, the current situation in the Taiwan Strait has been in a state of turmoil Especially recently, overseas people not only have rumors that the taiwan issue that the mainland needs to solve the next thing after solving the Hong Kong issue, but also that the mainland will start to "reunify" Taiwan by force in recent years, and the frequency of flights around Taiwan by PLA military planes around Taiwan has reached a new high in recent times.

So in this case, many people, especially many observers, hope to interpret General Secretary Xi Jinping's speech to figure out the latest trends in the mainland's Taiwan policy, especially to smell some unusual smoke in it, so as to confirm that their guess is correct. However, people who hold such mentalities and ideas, I think they should be disappointed.

In his speech, General Secretary Xi Jinping, in addition to expressing his principled stand of resolutely opposing "Taiwan independence" and opposing interference in China's internal affairs by external forces as always, did not show any message of "armed reunification" of Taiwan, nor did he show the urgency of "armed reunification" of Taiwan. On the contrary, General Secretary Xi Jinping's speech also showed the characteristics of "the wind blowing vigorously".

General Secretary Xi Jinping said that the history of the 110 years since the Xinhai Revolution has enlightened us that to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, we need not only a stable and united domestic environment, but also a peaceful and stable international environment. On the new journey, we must always hold high the banner of peace, development, cooperation and win-win results, be the builders of world peace, the contributors to global development, and the defenders of the international order, and strive to make new and greater contributions to mankind. The signal sent by this statement could not be clearer: In the future, as long as there are no major "Taiwan independence" incidents, the mainland will not take the initiative to "reunify" Taiwan by force, but will concentrate its main energy on realizing the great rejuvenation of the nation and building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Liu Heping: Xi Jinping's speech provides new ideas for resolving cross-strait issues

Straight News: In addition to the mainland's high-level grand commemoration, we know that tomorrow the blue and green sides of the island will also hold some activities on the anniversary of the 110th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution. What do you think about that?

Special Commentator Liu Heping: First of all, in the red and blue aspects, that is, the Communist Party and the Kuomintang, there have always been relatively large differences between the two sides in evaluating the historical significance of the Xinhai Revolution. This is well known. For example, the Communist Party believes that the main significance of the Xinhai Revolution lies in the first half, that is, the overthrow of the feudal dynasty; the Kuomintang side emphasizes the results of the Xinhai Revolution, that is, the second half, according to General Secretary Xi Jinping's speech today, that is, "the establishment of Asia's first republican state on the land of China."

Second, there were also differences between the Communist Party and the Kuomintang in their purpose of commemorating the Xinhai Revolution. The purpose of the Communist Party in commemorating the Xinhai Revolution is to focus on the common historical memory of the two sides of the strait and hopes to promote the reunification of the two sides of the strait.

The Kuomintang, on the other hand, focused on the differences between the two sides of the strait, focusing on highlighting that the regime established by Dr. Sun Yat-sen a hundred years ago still exists on the island. That is to say, what the KMT wants to highlight is the political reality of cross-strait separation, that is, Ma Ying-jeou's so-called "one China has its own table."

As for Tsai Ing-wen and the DPP authorities, they have been deliberately downplaying the history of the Xinhai Revolution, and I personally even think that if it were not for the special day of October 10, they might not have mentioned this matter at all, let alone commemorated it. The reason behind this is very simple: When the mainland connected the history of the two sides of the strait through high-profile commemorations, the purpose of Tsai Ing-wen and the DPP in downplaying the handling was actually to sever the historical ties between the two sides of the strait, especially in an attempt to deny the existence of the current political power on the island and to make room for "Taiwan independence."
