Olivia Jane Cockburn COH-burn (March 10, 1984) is an American actress and filmmaker. She played Remy "Thirteen" Hadley in the medical drama House (2007–2012) and appeared in the films Tron: Legacy (2010), Cowboys & Aliens (2011), The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013), and Lazarus Effect (2015). In 2017, Wilde made her Broadway debut, playing the role of Julia in 1984. In 2019, she directed her first film, the youth comedy Booksmart, for which she won the Award for Best First Independent Spirit.

Wilde was born on March 10, 1984 in Olivia Jane Cockburn, New York City. She grew up near Georgetown, Washington, D.C., while spending summers in Ardmore, Ireland. She attended the private Georgetown Day School in Washington, D.C. and boarding school at Philip College in Andover, Massachusetts,[7] Wilde derived her current name from Irish writers, oscar Wilde, and changed her last name in high school in honor of the writers in her family, many of whom used pseudonyms. Wilde's mother, Leslie Cockburn (formerly known as Redlich), is a producer and journalist for 60 Minutes. Her father, Andrew Cockburn, was also a journalist and the son of British novelist and journalist Claude Cockburn. He was born in London and grew up in Ireland. For a time, Wilde's family also had a house in Guildford, Vermont. She has an older sister who is five years older and a younger brother who is nine years younger. Her grandfather Claude Coburn and his sons Alexander and Patrick Coburn also worked as journalists, and her aunt Sarah Caldwell was a writer. Writer Christopher Hitchens was a tenant of the Coburn family in Washington, D.C., and served as Wilde's nanny.
Some of Wilde's Scottish ancestors were high society, living in many places during the heyday of the British Empire, including Beijing (her grandfather's birthplace), Calcutta, Mumbai, Cairo and Tasmania. The Coburn family is a descendant of the lawyer, judge and literary figure Henry Cockburn, Lord Coburn. Henry Arthur Blake, one of Wilde's great-great-grandfathers, was the Governor of Hong Kong. Through her father's family, Wilde was associated with George Cockburn, who was responsible for burning Washington, D.C., during the War of 1812. Wilde's ancestry includes English, German, Irish, Isle of Man and Scots; through her great-great-grandfather Ralph Bernal (1783–1854), an English Whig politician and actress, she is also descended from 1/64th of her lineage of Hispanic Jews.

Wilde played "Jewel Goldman" in the short-lived TELEVISION series Skin (2003-2004). She is best known for her repeated role as Alex Kelly in the teen drama television series The OC (2004-2005). In 2013, Wilde wrote an article called "Notes for 30 Years," which was published in Glamour magazine. She starred in and performed the production of Drinking Buddy (2013). She also played Susie Miller in the biopic Rush (2013), about James Hunt and Nikki Lauda, and in the film She (2013), where she was praised by critics and won acclaimed Academy Awards and Golden Globes. The Washington Post said, "[As the film progresses, Wilde's filmmaking skills become more and more apparent, exploding in the third act, becoming something beautiful and even transcendent.] The Los Angeles Times wrote that it "makes you feel inexplicably hopeful about the current state of humanity — and the current state of American film comedy ," and the Wall Street Journal noted that "for a long time there has been nothing more interesting, smarter, faster, or happier on the big screen." Wilde next appeared in 2019 as Richard Jewell in 2019 as Atlanta Constitution reporter Kathy Scrugers, who died in 2001. The film has been criticized for portraying Scrugers as offering a sex deal with FBI agents in exchange for classified information. The editor-in-chief of the Constitution of Atlanta wrote in an open letter that the events described were "entirely false and malicious." Employees of the newspaper demanded that the film have a prominent disclaimer that "some events were imagined for theatrical purposes and artistic permits." The film is accused of perpetuating a sexist metaphor of a female journalist exchanging sex for information. Wilde defended her role and said there was a gender-discriminatory double standard because Jon Hamm's role as an FBI agent was not subject to the same scrutiny. Commentators noted that Wilde's character was based on a live-action adaptation, while FBI agents were a fusion of multiple characters in the original script. They also stated that the film's aim was to expose and condemn the assassination of Jewell's character; however, in the process, the film carried out the same character assassination of Scrugers.
