The unjustly killed prince laid the foundation for his son Tuoba Mao to take the throne in disguise

After the crown prince Tuoba Huang was framed by Zong Ai and wronged, Emperor Taiwu knew that he had wronged the prince and regretted it, so he treated his grandson Tuoba Hao better. In April 452, the eunuch Emperor Zong, fearing that Emperor Taiwu was pursuing the matter, strangled Emperor Taiwu to death and died of an acute illness. By October, Zong Ai had stabbed the new emperor Tuoba Yu, whom he had established.

Zong Ai killed the Second Emperor in a row, which was dissatisfied by many ministers, and Yulin Langzhong Liu Ni and Shang Shu Yuanhe and others jointly raised troops to kill Zong Ai and his henchmen and exterminate his three tribes. Tuoba Mao ascended the throne as the 5th emperor of Northern Wei.

When Tuoba Mao ascended the throne, he was 12 years old, and although he was young, he was very insightful. He was diligent in government affairs, and paid attention to his ministers. Tuoba Mao learned the lesson of his predecessors' indiscriminate killing of innocents, examined the rumors in detail, and did not kill people casually because of credulity. He cared about the people's suffering and became a generation of ming kings.

Tuoba Mao was good at receiving advice, and the chancellor Gao Yun was able to make yan zhi advice, and Tuoba Hao was very appreciative and praised him as a loyal subject. When the emperor heard that Gao Yun's family was poor and living in difficulty, he took the minister to visit his house, and sure enough, he saw several broken grass houses, the family was not well dressed, and there were only pickles in the kitchen. The emperor sighed and said, "If all the officials of the state are as honest and honest as Gao Yun, are they still worried that the country is not prosperous and developed, and the people are uneasy about living and working?" So he ordered Gao Yun to be given 500 horses and 1,000 pieces of corn as a reward.

In 463, emperor Tuoba Mao issued an edict that the sons of the Fanliang family who were sold as slaves because of hunger could redeem their children, otherwise they would be punished for the crime of plundering. He attached great importance to alleviating the suffering of peasants, and a thriving scene appeared in society.

Tuoba Mao reigned for 14 years, and was only 26 years old when he died of illness, with the title of Emperor Wencheng and the temple name gaozong.
